As per recent report, Sanmilita Jatiya Abhibartan, has been given the task of preparing agenda for talks as well as the charter of demands for the much publicized ULFA-GOI talks, which is starting from 10th February 2011. While there is no concrete indication about the agenda of talks, Assam’s sovereignty is definitely not in the agenda of talks.
So, it would be really interesting to see, apart from sovereignty, what would be ULFA’s demand from central government ? It may be mentioned here that, AASU ( All Assam Student Union) had once led a six year old agitation against illegal immigrants, signed an accord with GOI in 1985, formed a regional political party AGP ( Asom Gana Parishad ) and won the next election.
AGP promised ‘Golden Period of Assam’ as well as promised to hang ‘corrupt people’ on next electric post. And AGP has produced very disappointing story in terms of keeping their promise.
With news about scheduled talks between ULFA and Indian Government along with charter of demands, it would be very interesting what kind of demands ULFA would place before Indian Government and what kind of price Indian government willing pay for armed struggle for more than 30 years!
