70 days of Manipur Blockade

The Manipur Blockade ( blocking oh NH 39 and NH 53, lifeline of Manipur) by SHDCC (Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee) has completed 70 days yesterday which started on 31st July 2011, which is the longest blockade in the history of Manipur.

SHDCC is demanding creation of Sadar Hills district while UNC (United Naga Council) is opposing the demand. UNC has also called for counter blockade of NH 150 since August 21.

NSCN-IM finally admits April 15 ambush

NSCN-IM ( National Socialist Council of Nagaland – Isaac Mivah) has finally admitted that they ambushed on MLA Wungnaoshang Keishing which killed eight people besides injuring six others on 15th April 2011. They also claim that the ambush was the result of some misunderstanding.

In the aftermath of the ambush, Pastors and Church leaders visited NSCN-IM leaders voluntarily and talked about averting such incidents of violence and killing in future. The NSCN-IM leaders told the visiting Church leaders that the ambush was a result of some misunderstanding, conveyed Wungnaoshang Keishing.

NSCN-IM will never accept Indian Constitution

Strongly reacting to the statement made by Union Minister of State for Planning Ashwani Kumar that the solution to the Naga political issue has got to be found within the framework of the Indian Constitution, NSCN (IM) retorted that, it will not accept Indian Constitution under any circumstances.

NSCN ( IM) has also termed Ashwani Kumar’s comment “an irresponsible statement” and which may hamper current peace talks to resolve half-a-century old Indo-Naga conflict.

Wungnaoshang Keishing an opportunist traitor : NSCN-IM

In a press release by “ministry of information and publicity, Nagaland”, NSCN-IM has accused W keishing of having treacherous mindset of an opportunist traitor, patronizing and nurturing anti people armed groups such as United Naga People’s Council (UNPC) and Manipur Naga Revolutionary Front (MNRF) and valley-based armed groups to fight against his own people, undermining the cause of the Naga Nation.

Unless Wungnaoshang realises his mistakes and mend his ways, he can never run away from the judgement of the people, the Press release says.

7 Policemen killed in deadly ambush by suspected NSCN-IM in Manipur

Seven policemen were killed and six others were injured when suspected NSCN-IM militants ambushed returning convoy of Phungyar MLA Wungnaoshang Keishing at the top of a hill about half a kilometre away from Riha village, 16 kms on the south of Litan PS of Ukhrul in Manipur.

The MLA received minor injuries in the ambush that was laid by the insurgents at a place not far away from Riha village where he had attended a convention on HIV/AIDS.

Brigadier Chipu Menon-Khunwang of NSCN(K) Killed

The NSCN (K) head of Tirap District in Arunachal Pradesh, ‘Brigadier’ Chipu Menon-Khunwang was found killed by some blunt object on near Mon town gate Thursday afternoon on 17 March 2011. Chipu Menon-Khunwang, allegedly a RAW agent, was the son of late KD Menon, an officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), and the nephew of Congress leader and ex-minister TL Rajkumar.

With Menon’s death, the NSCN (K) could be a much weakened force in Arunachal Pradesh; his death is bound to have operational implications on the Arunachal Naga Liberation Front (ANLF).

NSCN (K) threatens legislators from Tirap and Changlang in Arunachal

The National Socialist Council of Nagaland ( Khaplang) had threatened all MLAs and ministers from Tirap and Changlang districts in Arunachal Pradesh to withdraw support to Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu and Congress Government or face dire consequences!

It has also alleged that Darjee Khandu is the “killer of Naga” people indirectly through Issac and Muivah party and Dorjee Khandu is treating its people mercilessly as well as looting all development fund.

India Army realises Military might futile : NSCN (IM)

Participating 20th anniversary of Unrepresented Nations People Organisation (UNPO), held on 10th and 11th Feb 2011, at The Hague in the Netherlands NSCN (IM) representative V.S Atem has said that the Indian Army Generals, including Chief of the Army Staff, having realized the futility of seeking solution through military might, declared that military solution was impossible as the Indo-Naga conflict is a political issue.

UNPO is an international, nonviolent, and democratic membership organisation. Its members are indigenous peoples, minorities, and unrecognised or occupied territories who have joined together to protect and promote their human and cultural rights, to preserve their environments, and to find nonviolent solutions to conflicts which affect them.
