Road Connectivity Between North East and Thailand by 2016

The ambitious trilateral highway between India, Myanmar and Thailand is likely to be completed by 2016 and one would be able to drive from North East India to Mae Sot of Thailand via Myanmar! The projected date of completion was announced by Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh during his opening remarks at the 10th India ASEAN Summit in PHNOM PENH on 19th Nov 2012.

he Trilateral Highway Task Force met in New Delhi and resolved to establish connectivity from Moreh in India to Mae Sot in Thailand by 2016. These are welcome steps in implementing the vision of India-ASEAN connectivity, said the Prime Minister.

Ninong Ering and Rani Narah inducted into Union Ministry

Arunachal East Loksabha MP Ninong Ering has been sworn in as Minister Of State (MOS) for Tribal Affairs while Rani Narah, an loksabha MP from Lakhimpur, Assam has been inducted as Minority Affairs minister, again as MOS capacity.

Son of late Daying Ering, who was Jawaharlal Nehru’s cabinet colleague, Ninong Ering was born in 1959.
He was elected to Lok Sabha from the Arunachal East constituency. Ering was a member of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly representing Pasighat East constituency as an independent candidate from 1990-1995.

NSCN-IM denies accepting Indian Constitution

National Socialist Council of Nagaland ( NSCN – IM) Isak-Muivah faction has denied that they have given written assurance of accepting Indian constitution in order to solve decade old Indo-Naga conflict, reports Assam Tribune.

Few days ago, news items were carried in national media that the Centre has secured a written commitment from the NSCN-IM that it will accept the Indian Constitution. Bangladesh Election And Insurgency in North East India

Bangladesh is no longer safe heaven for NE millitants

Indian security agencies are apprehensive of North East insurgent groups trying to re-establish after general election in Bangladsh next year if not-so-friendly government comes to power. Bangladesh can be credited with India’s successful split of ULFA, one of the most powerful and famous insurgent group in North East India.

Bangladesh authorities had ‘pushed back’ ULFA chairman Arabind Rajkhowa along with many others through its border posts to India who were promptly arrested by Indian authorities. Apart from many ULFA cadres, leaders from Manipur insurgents too were similarly pushed back to India as India and Bangladesh does not have an extradition treaty. These arrangements worked as Bangladesh elected pro-India party Awami League in 2008.

NESO takes out massive rally demanding expulsion of illegal immigrants

Yesterday, MESO ( North East Students Organisation) staged a massive rally at Latashil field in Guwahati. It was supported by many organisations and participated by all walks of life.

This protest was organised by AASU ( All Assam Student Union) which spearheaded 6 year agitation for expulsion of illegal immigrants from 1979 to 1985 which resulted in birth of AGP ( Assam Gana Parishad) which captured power after election was held.

NESO secretary general Gumjum Haider, said, “The movement is not against Muslims, Hindus or any other community. It is against the illegal migrants staying in the North-east.”

Exodus of North East People continues

The exodus of North Eastern people living in Indian cities continue to leave for their home states as authorities blame it on rumour of threatening to them. As per many reports in Times of India, The Hindu, North East people are now leaving from cities like Chennai, Mumbai, Hyerabad apart from Bangalore.

Meanwhile, Indian PM had asked chief ministers of all states from where North Eastern people ar fleeing, to ensure their safety. The issue of North Eastern people leaving cities for home states has reached Parliament which is in session and likely to be debated.

North East Blog Threatened in Twitter

Finally, North East Blog handle in Twitter had to face threatening tweets While we had been majorly tweeting and posting news article related to North East India from established news media, be it print of TV, @northestblog, the twitter handle, used by many people, had to face threatining tweet, because of tweeting on a ‘delicate matter’ of North East People fleeing Indian cities.

North East blog was first slammed by RSS supporter when it re-tweeted a tweet slamming RSS or its affiliated organizations for spreading rumour of threat to North East people. After that, some RSS inspired twitter handle had started slamming us.
