Finally, North East Blog handle in Twitter had to face threatening tweets While we had been majorly tweeting and posting news article related to North East India from established news media, be it print of TV, @northestblog, the twitter handle, used by many people, had to face threatining tweet, because of tweeting on a ‘delicate matter’ of North East People fleeing Indian cities.

North East blog was first slammed by RSS supporter when it re-tweeted a tweet slamming RSS or its affiliated organizations for spreading rumour of threat to North East people. After that, some RSS inspired twitter handle had started slamming us.

Education is free in Tripura except Exam fees

“No government, semi-government and government aided schools up to 12th standard are to be allowed to take any kind of fee except the examination charge from the students” is the recent order by education department in Tripura, another tiny state in North East India.

Education is Tripura is going to be free ( almost) except examination fees. And as examination fees ranges from Rs. 20 to Rs. 200, one can say, it is almost free! Very good initiative by Tripura Government when implemented successfully.

Naga Reconciliation Meet before 25th September

Forum for Naga Reconciliation ( FNR ) has informed media persons in Dimapur recently that, a meeting at the highest level of the NNC, NSCN-K and NSCN-IM has been scheduled to take place sometime before 25th September 2010.

The Forum further urged that the Naga people must unitedly and truthfully persuade the highest level of leaderships of the Naga political groups to shed their differences, forgive one other and to reconcile on the basis the historical and political rights of the Nagas. [Read more...]

Ray of hope for justice in Manipur

10 September 2010 could be remarkable day for Manipur in North East India. Two important developments today have taken place. In one incident, 9 Police personnel were charge sheeted by CBI ( Central Bureau of Investigation) in a fake encounter for killing a young boy in Imphal in January, 2009. The accused face murder and other charges.

The writ petition was filed at the Gauhati High Court by Chungkham Taratombi Devi, mother of deceased Chungkham Sanjit Meitei. [Read more...]

Maoists and NE Militants are trying for alliance, Police worried

There has been periodic report of links between Maoists of central India and militant, separatist groups of North East India. But the recently concluded DGP and IGP level meet in New Delhi, this link has evoked a lot f concern. In our previous report of Naxalites in North East India, it was reported that Naxalites ( Maoists) have been trying to create some bases in North East India.

An interesting report in Assam Tribune :

Highly placed official sources told The Assam Tribune that though the Maoist rebel groups are yet to have strong presence in the North East states, the groups are trying to maintain close links with some of the rebel groups of the region. Recent intelligence input of a group of Maoist rebels visiting Myanmar for training is viewed with serious concern by the Government of India. Sources said that the Maoist rebels must have visited Myanmar to receive training in the bases of the NE rebel groups in the neighbouring country, but the group is yet to be identified. A number of rebel groups of the region have strong bases in Myanmar and the Maoists could have visited any of such camp, sources added. In view of the development, the issue of securing the international border with Myanmar came up for discussion again in the recent meeting.

Bamboo Dance of Mizoram will feature in Commonwealth Games New Delhi

The famous Bamboo dance of Mizorm would showcased in Commonwealth Games ceremony to be held in October in New Delhi 2010, as per reports.
The vivacious Mizo bamboo dance, which symbolises excellence and skills, will entertain spectators at the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in the Indian capital.

“The State government has accepted the invitation from the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee to perform the Mizo traditional and colourful Cheraw dance at the inaugural ceremony in the national capital,” an official told IANS.

“Around 80 dancers, comprising men and women, will perform the bamboo dance, traditionally known as Cheraw dance, at the inaugural function at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi Oct 3,” he said.

Top DHD leader arrested in Nepal

DHD(J) ( Dima Halom Daogah Jewel group) self styled Commander In Chief Niranjan Hojai has been arrested in Nepal, as per recent media reports. DHD(J) is also known as Black Widow group. Indian Police has already been able to arrest its chief Jewel Garlosa, its self styled chairman. DHD(J) operates in NC Hills autonomous district of Assam where Dimasa tribe is in majority.

Niranajan was arrested by Nepal police outside its capital city Kathmandu and was brought to New Delhi by NIA ( National Investigation Agency). It may be mentioned that, NIA is investing agency in India for all kind of terrorist activities.

13 ATTF insurgents surrender in Tripura

Thirteen insurgents of outlawed All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) surrendered before the Assam Rifles here today after fleeing from their base camp in neighboring Bangladesh, police said.

The insurgents said they took the decision following heavy crackdown by security forces in Bangladesh, non payment of their salaries and crisis of food in the camps, according to police.

They handed over 11 AK-47 rifles, 2 SLR, 2 rifles, live cartridges and 24 kgs of explosives, they said.

The 13-member group led by self-styled captain Jagadish Debbarma deposited a cache of arms with the DIG of Assam Rifles Brig ST Upasani in presence of DGP Tripura Selim Ali.

It was the biggest surrender of any insurgent group this year along with arms and ammunition, police claimed.
