Maoists-Police Encounter in Assam

Which seems to be first of its kind, a confirmed encounter between Assam Police and Maoists insurgents had taken place today in which four Maoists have been reportedly killed while one Police person was also injured seriously.
Though, not much details is unknown, the encounter took place at Deopani Borgara in Sadia in Upper Assam bordering Arunachal PRadesh. Large quanitites of arms and ammunition is also recovered.

There have been many reports about Maoists establishing its Revolutionary People’s Guerrilla Army in Assam to fight the government.

Bodo Organisations National Seminar on Smaller States in New Delhi

ABSU ( All Bodo Students Union) had organised a national seminar at Club of India on Tuesday, 6th December 2011 in New Delhi with the topic ‘Issues of separate States in India: Problems and perspectives’. Many prominent personalities took part in the seminar which included former Speaker P A Sangma, Rajya Sabha MP Bedabrata Biswas, Chavan Garg, Chandan Mitra, UG Brahma among others.

Leaders of various Bodo organisations have supported the creation of smaller states while noted journalist Kuldeep Nayyar was the lone voice to oppose creation of Bodoland in Assam.

No more division of Assam : Tarun Gogoi

Assam Chief Minister, Tarun Gogoi had reiterated that Assam will not be divided any more. “We are for a considerate response to the issues raised by the militant outfits but no further division of the State is possible to accommodate their demands. We have made this very clear,” Gogoi said at a press conference in Guwahati recently.

This statement is significant since recently NDFB pro-talk group held a demonstration in Kokrajhar, demanding creation of Bodoland which would include present BTAD areas and sent a memorandum to president of India.

Ban on NDFB to continue

The ban on NDFB ( National Democratic Front of Bodoland), an insurgent group fighting for sovereign Bodoland comprising of Bodo dominated areas in Assam, is likely to continue to next two years as Assam had produced evidences of NDFB sponsored terrorist activities in lower Assam before the Unlawful Activities Prevention Tribunal, headed by Justice P K Bhasin.

The centre notified ban on the NDFB on 23 November 2010 for two years on the ground that it has not abjured violence.

NDFB Continues Ambush : Kills Three SSB Jawans

Banned insurgent group, NDFB (National Democratic Front of Bodoland) anti-talk faction, has yet again ambushed and killed three SSB (Sashastra Seema Bal) Jawans at Lalvita of Longa-Pipsu area under Kachugaon police station in Kokrajhar district in Assam.

The SSB party was on patrolling duty when suspected NDFB militants had opened fire on them indiscriminately killing three SSB jawans on the spot.

NDFB Strikes : 8 BSF Jawan killed

In a deadly ambush by banned outfit NDFB ( National Democratic Front of Bodoland) killed 8 BSF ( Border Security Force) jawans in Ultapani, near Assam-Bhutan Border on 14th Mar 2011 evening at around 6PM. The NDFB militants attacked the BSF convoy when it was on patrolling duty in the forest area.

According to official sources, Ranjan Daimari led Anti-talk faction of NDFB had carried out the ambush. Nine jawans were also injured seriously and some are being treated in Lower Assam Hospital and Research Centre at Bongaigaon, while others were taken to Kokrajhar civil hospital for treatment.

NSCN (K) threatens legislators from Tirap and Changlang in Arunachal

The National Socialist Council of Nagaland ( Khaplang) had threatened all MLAs and ministers from Tirap and Changlang districts in Arunachal Pradesh to withdraw support to Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu and Congress Government or face dire consequences!

It has also alleged that Darjee Khandu is the “killer of Naga” people indirectly through Issac and Muivah party and Dorjee Khandu is treating its people mercilessly as well as looting all development fund.

ABSU to intensify statehood demand

Powerful Bodo Student organization ABSU ( All Bodo Student Union) has pledged to ntensify the Statehood demand through the democratic process, according to Promod Boro, president of ABSU. In the open session of the conference recently, eight important resolutions were unanimously adopted i the delegates’ session on the concluding day of the 43rd annual conference of ABSU in Kokrajhar, Assam.

The Statehood demand has figured as most urgent including the demand to the Government to resolve the Bodo problem through talks with pro-talk and anti-talk factions of NDFB in the similar manner as that being seen in case of the ULFA for lasting peace in the area.
