Devendro Singh Laishram lost in Quarter Finals

Devendro Singh Laishram, another boxer from Manipur, lost quarter final match against Paddy Barnes of Ireland 18 to 23 points. Devendro Singh went behind his opponent in first two rounds while he could score two more points in the final round.

In the second round, Devendro Singh was warned and got two points deducted making the score 10-5 in favour of Paddy Barnes. In the first round, Paddy Barnes was ahead by two points 5-3.

Imphal blast ahead of Indian PM visit kills one

A powerful IED blast at the gate of ongoing Manipur Sangai Festival venue at Hafta Kangjeibung ground in Manipur’s Imphal East district has killed one rickshaw-puller and injured two women. Police suspect that the bomb was given to the rickshaw-puller by militant of Kangleipak Communist Party (MC) to leave the bomb at the festival site.

The deceased rickshawpuller has been identified as Md Kora who hailed from Mayang Imphal Irong in Imphal West district and presently resided in a rented house at Hatta here.

Visit of Hillary Clinton to Myanmar: How will it affect North East India ?

Hillary Clinton, the Secretary of State of United States of America would be visiting Myanmar on first and second December 2011, a first in last 50 years. This visit is creating lot of buzz in the international circle and China is observing this recent development in Myanmar with keen interest.

China has been the only friend Myanmar had for last many years. But recently, ruling military Junta n Yangon has opened up to the world. It has also warmed up to India and Vietnam, which are traditionally seen as rival to China and both countries have border dispute with China.

NSCN-IM will never accept Indian Constitution

Strongly reacting to the statement made by Union Minister of State for Planning Ashwani Kumar that the solution to the Naga political issue has got to be found within the framework of the Indian Constitution, NSCN (IM) retorted that, it will not accept Indian Constitution under any circumstances.

NSCN ( IM) has also termed Ashwani Kumar’s comment “an irresponsible statement” and which may hamper current peace talks to resolve half-a-century old Indo-Naga conflict.

Pro-talk ULFA denies having received money

ULFA had denied having received any money from Government for their day to day expenses. In a press release sent to news channels, news papers in Assam, pro-talk ULFA group chairman, Arabinda Rajkhowa had clarified that they have not received any money from government and urges news papers to prove that pro-talk ULFA had received any money.

In the press release, he had also warned media not to spread such rumour and appealed to the people of Assam to not get miss-leaded by such biased news. [Read more...]

Brigadier Chipu Menon-Khunwang of NSCN(K) Killed

The NSCN (K) head of Tirap District in Arunachal Pradesh, ‘Brigadier’ Chipu Menon-Khunwang was found killed by some blunt object on near Mon town gate Thursday afternoon on 17 March 2011. Chipu Menon-Khunwang, allegedly a RAW agent, was the son of late KD Menon, an officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), and the nephew of Congress leader and ex-minister TL Rajkumar.

With Menon’s death, the NSCN (K) could be a much weakened force in Arunachal Pradesh; his death is bound to have operational implications on the Arunachal Naga Liberation Front (ANLF).

ULFA threatens Congress in Assam

In a surprising development, it is reported that ULFA’s anti-talk faction led by self styled Commander In Chief Paresh Barua had threatened Congress to launch armed strike against it. According to Times Of India, ULFA mailed them warning people to stay away from Congress meetings ahead of Assam assembly election due in April 2011.

ULFA had accused Congress of trying to weaken ULFA by splitting it. ULFA will attack Congress with arms and they are requesting people not to attend their meetings as they do not want to harm.
