Is it ethical to upload molestation video with victim identity ?

The previous week has been quite eventful for North East India ( Assam in particular) and Guwahati trended in Twitter for wrong reason. Guwahati Molestation case had become national outrage in both social media as well as mainstream media. Many debates raged in newsroom and well as internet space, and we at North East India Blog had also did a poll on the same topic.

The question we put up was ( the poll is still on) “Do you think that it is justified to upload the mob-molestation video of the victim girl disclosing her identity that multiplies her misery for the rest of her life ?”

Unpaid vendors occupied Reliance office for two days in Guwahati

In the middle of issue about a young girl molested by mob in Guwahati, another significant incident almost failed to make it to the news, that all Reliance Telecom Vendors occupied Reliance Telecom Limited ( RTL ) office at GS Road, Christianbasti, Guwahati for two days.

Sources reveals that, more than 50 vendors from Guwahati as well as other places in Assam and NE States had occupied Reliance office on 11 July 2012 and started living there. They were demanding to be paid their dues which is whopping 50 crores!

Class XI girl molested in Guwahati, India outraged

On last Monday, 9th July 2012 evening, a girl from Guwahati, studying in Class X1, was molested by group of men when she came out of a bar in busy GS Road in Guwahati, Assam. The incident was captured on camera by a reporter from NewsLive TV, a local TV channel based in Guwahati.

This video went viral on internet and after that there was a nationwide outrage. The incident also got wide publicity in Delhi based TV channels, and #Guwahati started trending in Twitter.

Ferry capsizes in Brahmaputra, 200 feared dead

A double decked ferry carrying more than 380 passengers from Dhubri to Fakiragram capsized in middle of the river due to storm. More than 200 feared dead while 50 people have swam to safety. 49 people have been rescued alive so far.

Army, BSF and other security forces have began rescue operations and so far 103 bodies have been recovered as per latest reports.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh called up Assam Chief Minister, Tarun Gogoi and condoled the deaths and asked rescue operation to be sped up. ( This report will be updated again)

Thousands pay homage to music masetro Bhupenda

Thousands of people with tearful eyes pay tribute to Asom Ratna, legendary singer Dr.Bhupen Hazarika at the Adysaddha ceremonies organised across the state. The family and well-wisher of the legeandary singer organised Adyasaddha ceremony at the maestros Nijarapar resident. Government of Assam today,organized the ceremony at the Veterinary college playground at khanapara where thousands of people gathered around to pay homage to the departed soul.The Adyashraddha ritual began at morning and conclude around 1P.M followed by the all-faith pray.On the other hand All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) lightened earthen lamps as part of a day-long programme.

Earthquake of intensity 6.8 hits North East India

An earth quake measuring 6.8 on Richter scale has hit North East India today at 6.17PM ( Indian Standard Time). Its epicentre has been detected to be Sikkim – Nepal border in Eastern part of India. The tremors was felt through out Northern India, UP, Delhi etc.

So far, no loss of life has been reported but there are reports of many damaged buildings from Gangtok, Sikkim. There are also reports about waves created due to the tremor on river Brahmaputra.

How North East India loses being far away from New Delhi

One of the often heard comment about North East India is that it is being ignored by center, ( read New Delhi) due to its distance ( approximately 2000KM) from it. One may wonder how is that possible in this jet age and internet age where news of an earthquake in east coast of United States of America trends in India minutes after in Twitter!

And does that mean that had Calcutta ( Kolkata now a days) remained capital of India like before 1911, would North East India have got attention as much as Kashmir gets now a days ?
