North East People harassed in Delhi during Chinese President’s India visit

With heightened security arrangement in New Delhi for BRIC ( Brazil, Russia India and China) summit being held in New Delhi, people from North East India are getting harassed by Delhi Police because of their facial similarity with Tibetans.

Delhi Police is trying to prevent Tibetans from protesting in front of visiting Chinese President Hu Jintao. So, most probably, in order to please visiting Chinese President, citizens from North East India are getting harassed.

Tibet and North East India: Political pawn between India and China

On 10th March 1959, Tibetan revolted against Chinese rule in Lhasa. After that, on 12 March 1959, Tibetans marched in Lhasa ( Capital of Tibet) declaring independence of Tibet from Chinese rule. Since then, many Tibetans observe 10th March as Tibetan Uprising Day. Predictably, China could contain the uprising by 1962, but Dalai Lama could flee to India and was hosted by Indian government since then.

This also marked a sharp changes in relation between Tibet and India, specially in Tawang which is inside Indian territory as per McMohan line, border between India and China. Buddhists Monastery in Tawang used to pay tribute to Lhasa before 1959 and it showed black flag to Indian Political officer’s visit to Tawang in 1953.

China objects to Indian Ministers visit to Arunachal Pradesh

China has objected to visit of Indian Defence Minister A K Antony to Arunachal Pradesh to participate 25th statehood day celebration on 20th February 2012. The Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Hong Lei said on Saturday evening that India should refrain from taking any action that could complicate the border issue.

The official Xinhua news agency said Hong was reacting to reports of “Indian officials participating in activities organized by the so-called ‘Arunachal Pradesh’ region”. Indian officials. Hong asked India to work with China to maintain peace and stability in border areas. China advocates seeking a fair and rational solution through equal and friendly negotiations, the spokesman said.

Will China resurrect insurgency in North East India ?

Recent reports in news papers suggest that, anti-talks factions of insurgent groups are forging ties with each other and China is acting as chief interlocutor among them. With recent reverses by China at international levels by India, we had opined that China might step up ‘Insurgency in North East India’ card very soon.

It may be mentioned that, around 1600 cadres of nine insurgent groups have laid down arms recently in Assam. ULFA has also suffered great setback recently due to formal divisions among its top ranks and Paresh Barua Led anti-talk factions constituting new central body.

North East Insurgency at crossroads ?

Indian government has been actively pursuing multi-pronged strategy to contain insurgency and separatism in North East India for long and finally, it seems to be bearing fruit. Indian government has engaged Military Junta of Myanmar, covertly helped new Bangldesh India friendly government, impressed upon Bhutan to act against North Eastern insurgents. All seem to be working.

Recent announcements by both Bhutan government and Myanmar government about not allowing its soil to use militant activities against India has been testimony to it. Bangladesh had almost completely dismantled ULFA infrastructure and arrested its top leaders.

Visit of Hillary Clinton to Myanmar: How will it affect North East India ?

Hillary Clinton, the Secretary of State of United States of America would be visiting Myanmar on first and second December 2011, a first in last 50 years. This visit is creating lot of buzz in the international circle and China is observing this recent development in Myanmar with keen interest.

China has been the only friend Myanmar had for last many years. But recently, ruling military Junta n Yangon has opened up to the world. It has also warmed up to India and Vietnam, which are traditionally seen as rival to China and both countries have border dispute with China.

Paresh Barua in China : Government of India

According to Assam Tribune report, Home Ministry at the central government of has concrete evidence of the presence of anti-talk faction leader Paresh Barua is in Yunnan province of China. According to the report, there are only handful of ULFA cadres with Paresh Barua in China.
Sources pointed out that over the years, China has been denying the fact that the ULFA leader used to visit that country often. But this time, the Government of India has concrete evidence of the presence of Baruah in the Yunan province.

Dorjee Khandu, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister missing for 5th Day

Dorjee Khandu, Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, the largest state in North East India in terms of size, is missing for fifth day today. Indian government has deployed IAF helicopter sorties, SU 30, ISRO imagery, but no luck so far. It has also been raining constantly in Tawang area hampering search operation.

Two Union Ministers have been camping in Itanagar, capital of Arunachal Pradesh, supervising search operation. Meanwhile DONER minister Bijoy Krishna Handique had requested to deploy more IAF helicopters for aerial search. Presently, 3 IAF choppers and one Pawan Hans helicopter is being used in aerial search operation.
