Bodo MLA Pradeep Brahma arrested

Pradeep Brahma, MLA of Kokrajhar ( West) constituency was arrested today in the morning from his residence at Dotoma near Kokrajhar town. He has been arrested for his alleged involvement in recent violence in BTAD which claimed more than 80 lives so far.

Pradeep Brahma alias Gara is an ex-BLT member who was known as a sharp-shooter during his BLT ( Bodoland Liberation Tigers) days. He is an MLA of Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF), which is an ally of the ruling Congress in Assam.

Violence in BTAD, Assam spread to Mumbai

It seems, the violence in BTAD violence in Assam has spread to other parts of India. There was a protest rally in historic Azad Maidan in Mumbai against riots in Assam which turned violent resulting killing of two people and injury of 55 people in police firing.

Protestors also damaged many vehicles including media OB vans, Police vehicles, buses etc. They also tried to enter busy railway station Mumbai CST. The police resorted to lathi charge first and later fires to control the mob.

BTAD Violence And Assam Police

The recent communal clashes in Bodoland Territorial Areas District(BTAD) once again raise question on accountability of Assam Police.A wide discussion on the local Assamese media takes place regarding the issue.Similarly, various quarters allege that the police showed inactivity and indifference during the time of ethnic and communal clashes on account of political influence upon them.

As alleged some top police officers of the state seek favour of a group of influential politicians of the state on matters relating to their posting and transfer. Thus, these officer are busy with satisfying their ‘masters’, instead of providing security of life and property to the common people.This destructive attitude of the police was witnessed at the time of eruption of communal violence in BTAD that claimed lives of more than fifty innocent people in three districts of the area, viz, Kokaraajhar, Chirang and Baska.

Crack in Congress in Assam ?

As the communal violence in BTAD areas seems to be under control now. Indian Prime Minister visited few relief camps of both community and announced relief package of Rs. 300 crore for the riot victims. But there have been few incidents which hints at a division among Congress leaders in Assam.

Since the recent BTAD violence, Himanta Biswa Sarma was always the first to visit any violence hit site, or calamity. But strangely, this time, Chief Minister, Tarun Gogoi sent Rackybul Hussain, Dr. Nazrul Islam ( both from Congress) and Chandan Brahma to Kokrajhar to take stock of the situation as soon as the violence erupted.

Some people seem to be trying to cash in from Assam Communal Violence

Assam Communal violence has surely made an impact on India Social Media, be it twitter or facebook. Mainstream media had to take notice as social media had kept the tag #AssamRiot alive in twitter with keeping it trending on and off for last few days.

Sadly, this unfortunate violence has also created opportunities for many so-called gurus in India as well as hardcore Hindu supporters. On Twitter, it was noticed that, some tweeple tried to make it Hindu-Muslim riot, while some tried to make it ‘just another ethnic violence’ in North East India!

BTAD Communal Violence Update: 38 dead

Recent update from BTAD in Assam says that the ongoing communal violence has resulted in 38 confirmed deaths which also includes few deaths due to police firing in order to control unruly mob. Army has conducted flag march in the morning today in all four districts in BTAD.

1300 army personals has been deployed as per reports to quell the communal violence which is continuing till last Friday. Chirang district has been put under 144 as well as shoot at sight order has been given.

BTAD Violence death toll rises to 11

BTAD ( Bodoland Territorial Audonomous Districts), four districts in Assam under Sixth Schedule of Indian constitution have witnessed communal clash which resulted in 11 deaths so far. As per reports, the communal tension and violence erupted when four ex-BLT ( Bodoland Liberation Tigers) members were killed by unidentified miscreants on Friday 20th July 2012 at Joypur area in Bilasipara in Kokrajhar district.

What is reported to be retaliation killing, one 14 year boy and another 60 year old man were killed by unidentified persons.

Anti-Bodoland Protest in Assam

There has been reports recently about agitation against proposed Bodoland as well as protest against inclusion of BTAD ( Bodoland Territorial Administrative Districts) in parts of BTAD areas, like Dheiajuli. As per reports, Sonitpur District Minority students union has blocked NH-52 for more than three hours protesting against harassment faced by them as well as opposing inclusion of their villages in BTAD.

They also demanded that their villages should be governed under Assam government directly. The President and secretary, Sonitpur district AAMSU submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through DC, Sonitpur demanding effective steps to maintain law and order in BTAD and other parts of north Assam.
