Bangladesh is no longer safe heaven for NE millitants

Indian security agencies are apprehensive of North East insurgent groups trying to re-establish after general election in Bangladsh next year if not-so-friendly government comes to power. Bangladesh can be credited with India’s successful split of ULFA, one of the most powerful and famous insurgent group in North East India.

Bangladesh authorities had ‘pushed back’ ULFA chairman Arabind Rajkhowa along with many others through its border posts to India who were promptly arrested by Indian authorities. Apart from many ULFA cadres, leaders from Manipur insurgents too were similarly pushed back to India as India and Bangladesh does not have an extradition treaty. These arrangements worked as Bangladesh elected pro-India party Awami League in 2008.

Congress to organise mass rally in Assam

After facing lot of protest from opposition parties in Assam as well as powerful student organisation AASU ( All Assam Student Organisation), Congress government in Assam has decided to organise rallies in Assam in order to educate about the recent “land swap” deal with Bangladesh.

While opposition parties, AGP ( Assam Gana Parishad) and BJP ( Bharatiya Janata Party), has been claiming that government has given away land to Bangladesh, Congress Government has maintained that it has gained land from Bangladesh, not ceded any.

Anup Chetia may return to Assam soon

Anup Chetia, one of the founding member of ULFA ( United Liberation Front of Asom), who is in jail in Dhaka, Bangladesh may return to Assam soon, as per reports by DY365 ( A Guwahati based TV Channel in Assam). According to the report, Bangladesh Government has agreed to deport Anup Chetia once he withdraws or Bangladesh court rejects his petition seeking political asylum in Bangladesh.

Anup Chetia was arrested in Dhaka in 1997 under the Foreigners Act and the Passports Act for illegally carrying foreign currencies and a satellite phone. He was sentenced to seven years of imprisonment by a Bangladeshi court and was being held at Kashimpur Jail in the outskirts of Dhaka.

Paresh Barua in China : according to UNLF chief

It has been long speculated that Paresh Barua has taken shelter in China after Awami League won landslide in 2008 Bangladesh election. Awami League leader Shaikh Hasina is considered to be pro-India and soon enough, she had started acting against Indian insurgents camping in Bangladesh territory.

United National Liberation Front (UNLF) chief RK Sanayaima alias Meghen, arrested last month in Bihar by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), confessed during interrogation that he had met the elusive ‘commander-in-chief’ of ULFA during the 2010 Shanghai World Expo. He had also confessed that Paresh Barua is enjoying hospitality in China.

UNLF Chairman R K Meghen arrested from Bihar

Finally, the arrest of UNLF ( United National Liberation Front – a Meitei Insurgent Group) chairman Rajkumar Meghen has been announced. As per reports, he has been arrested from Motihari, Bihar though how and what circumstances, he has been arrested from Motihari, is not known or not in the news.

BBC ( British Broadcasting Corporation) had filed a report on 30th September 2010 that R K Meghen has been arrested in Dhaka by Indian spy agency RAW ( Research and Analysis Wing) and its Bangladesh counterpart. Soon after, UNLF had confirmed the arrest its chairman.

30 Oct 2008 Assam Serial Bomb Blast

30th October 2008 has been one of the darkest days in recent history of Assam where 18 bomb blasts took place all over Assam. It is reported that, it caused death of more than 77 people while injuring 470 injuries!

The bomb blasts ripped apart Guwahati, Barpeta, Bongaigaon and Kokrajhar towns in Assam. The explosions in Guwahati ripped through Pan Bazar, Fancy Bazar and Ganeshguri, which were crowded with shoppers and office goers. Three blasts occurred in Kokrajhar, with another possible grenade explosion; two in Bongaigaon and one in Barpeta. [Read more...]

NSCN (IM) Leader Anthony Shimrey Arrested

Indian anti terror investigation agency National Investigation Agency (NIA), which was formed after Mumbai Terror attack on 26 Nov 2008, has arrested Anthony Shimrey, a senior leader of National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN) (I-M).

Anthony Shimrey,the head of the Foreign Affairs department of the NSCN (I-M), has been arrested by NIA in connection with gun running ( buying arms and ammunition from illegal markets from China and other South East Asian countries and selling them to other North East Indians insurgent groups). Assam Govt. likely to release jailed ULFA leaders

Assam government is considering not to oppose bail application by jailed ULFA ( United Front Of Asom) so that they can come out jail and facilitate the much anticipated/discussed talks. Also, it is reported that Anup Chetia, in jail in Bangladesh, is likely to be handed over to Indian government.

The Government already facilitated the release of ULFA vice chairman Pradeep Gogoi and central publicity secretary Mithinga Daimary by not opposing their bail application. It looks like, Assam government is following every laws in Indian constitution with ULFA leaders. [Read more...]
