Bangladesh authorities had ‘pushed back’ ULFA chairman Arabind Rajkhowa along with many others through its border posts to India who were promptly arrested by Indian authorities. Apart from many ULFA cadres, leaders from Manipur insurgents too were similarly pushed back to India as India and Bangladesh does not have an extradition treaty. These arrangements worked as Bangladesh elected pro-India party Awami League in 2008.

NESO takes out massive rally demanding expulsion of illegal immigrants
Yesterday, MESO ( North East Students Organisation) staged a massive rally at Latashil field in Guwahati. It was supported by many organisations and participated by all walks of life.
This protest was organised by AASU ( All Assam Student Union) which spearheaded 6 year agitation for expulsion of illegal immigrants from 1979 to 1985 which resulted in birth of AGP ( Assam Gana Parishad) which captured power after election was held.
NESO secretary general Gumjum Haider, said, “The movement is not against Muslims, Hindus or any other community. It is against the illegal migrants staying in the North-east.”

Bodo MLA Pradeep Brahma arrested
Pradeep Brahma, MLA of Kokrajhar ( West) constituency was arrested today in the morning from his residence at Dotoma near Kokrajhar town. He has been arrested for his alleged involvement in recent violence in BTAD which claimed more than 80 lives so far.
Pradeep Brahma alias Gara is an ex-BLT member who was known as a sharp-shooter during his BLT ( Bodoland Liberation Tigers) days. He is an MLA of Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF), which is an ally of the ruling Congress in Assam.

Manipuri Student Assaulted in Pune, Again
While a day ago, whole India celebrated bronze medal by Manipuri boxer Mary Kom, today another Manipuri young boy of 17 years old, Premananda Khomdram, got beaten by 30 unidentified boys for no apparent reasons but for being ‘Chink’, as per PuneMirron.in reports.
Khomdram, 17, was on his way to college to check on his pre-exam subject listing, when he was approached by a youth. “Ap Assam se ho?”(Are you from Assam?) the youth asked. “I told him no,” recalled Khomdram.
But before he could get beyond that he was slapped on his head. Then another youth came along shouting, “Sab chinki log ko nahi chhodna,” (Don’t let any ‘chinki’ person go.) The next thing he knew was a rain of blows.

Is it ethical to upload molestation video with victim identity ?
The previous week has been quite eventful for North East India ( Assam in particular) and Guwahati trended in Twitter for wrong reason. Guwahati Molestation case had become national outrage in both social media as well as mainstream media. Many debates raged in newsroom and well as internet space, and we at North East India Blog had also did a poll on the same topic.
The question we put up was ( the poll is still on) “Do you think that it is justified to upload the mob-molestation video of the victim girl disclosing her identity that multiplies her misery for the rest of her life ?”

Yesterday, there was protest march and agitation in front of NewsLive office in Guwahati protesting against uploading of the video of molestation of a woman on 9th July evening by NEwsLive TV channel.
