Congress to organise mass rally in Assam

After facing lot of protest from opposition parties in Assam as well as powerful student organisation AASU ( All Assam Student Organisation), Congress government in Assam has decided to organise rallies in Assam in order to educate about the recent “land swap” deal with Bangladesh.

While opposition parties, AGP ( Assam Gana Parishad) and BJP ( Bharatiya Janata Party), has been claiming that government has given away land to Bangladesh, Congress Government has maintained that it has gained land from Bangladesh, not ceded any.

Lack of Unity among North Eastern communities : NESO

Dr Samujjal Bhattacharjee, Chairman of North East Students’ Organisation, has expressed that there is a lack of unity among communities in North Eastern region and it is now time to reach out to each other.

Speaking on the last day of the just concluded 24th General Conference of Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) at Pfutsero town recently, Dr Samujjal stated that the rest of the country abuses the North East as a region where the ethnic groups lack unity while the Government of India considers it as an advantage for their administrative purposes.

Congress set to return to power in Assam

As per early trend, Congress is certain to return to power in Assam, this time with simple majority on its own. Today, initial vote counting result shows it gaining early lead with leading in as many as 70 seats, while AGP is trailing at distant second with 22 seats.

As for big leaders, Himanta Biswa Sarma is leading by more than 41000 votes from his nearest rival BJPs Pradyut Bora. AGP President C M Patiwari was trailing his Congress rival in his Dharmapur constituency.

Assam Assembly Result Prediction heats up : Our Poll Result

Immediately after the last leg of polling ended in West Bengal, many news channel have come out with their Exit Poll results. In Assam too, depending on their leaning, both DY365 and NewsLive Channels have highlighted result favouring their parties. NewsLive TV had made it headline as well as breaking news “The CNN-IBN-The Week post-poll” which predicted clear and absolute winning by Congress with more than 71 seats.

While DY365 channel, supposed to be AGP supporter, is predicting close fight between AGP and Congress as per Star News exit poll. Assam Tribune had published all exit poll results. Result would be declared on 13th May 2011, Friday day after tomorrow.

Rs. 2 Crore for ULFA Peace Talk and Assam Election

Recent news report in various news papers tells the story that, ULFA has been given Rs. 2 crore ( as per Asian Age Rs. 40 lac as per Assam Tribune) for daily expenses of ULFA leaders as well as its 400 overground cadres who are now in designated camps at various places in Assam.

According to Asian Age, the pro-talk group of ULFA led by Arabinda Rajkhowa ( currently released on bail from Guwahati jail after he was arrested from Bangladesh and pushed back to India) sought the financial assistance from Government.

Assam Assembly Election update week – 6

This is the second last update on Assam Assembly Election 2011. The final update will after 13th May 2011 when the votes would be counted and result would be declared. Since EVM ( Electronic Voting Machine) is being used, we can expect all the result by afternoon itself.

The campaign for second and final phase of voting for 64 seats in lower Assam had come to an end yesterday on 9th April 2011. An electorate of more than 96lacs would decide 64 MLAs among 596 candidates on 11 April 2011.

BJP Demands EC to ban NewsLive TV Channel

According to Sentinel News paper in Assam, BJP ( Bharatiya Janata Party) has moved to Election Commission of India to ban NewsLive TV ( a small satellite channel, more famous as channel owned by powerful and controversial Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife ).

According to BJP’s national vice-president Mukthar Abbas Naqvi, News Live “is presently running as an agent of the Congress Party and screening programmes of the Congress and openly canvassing for them, which is nothing but a clear case of malpractice of paid news”.
