It seems, the violence in BTAD violence in Assam has spread to other parts of India. There was a protest rally in historic Azad Maidan in Mumbai against riots in Assam which turned violent resulting killing of two people and injury of 55 people in police firing.
Protestors also damaged many vehicles including media OB vans, Police vehicles, buses etc. They also tried to enter busy railway station Mumbai CST. The police resorted to lathi charge first and later fires to control the mob.
The protest rally was organised by Raza Academy, Mumbai.
Few days ago, one Manipuri boy was attacked in Pune, which now seems to be communal in nature, rather than racial.
AIUDF leader Badaruddin Ajmal is demanding scrapping of BTC agreement while Bodo leaders are accusing ‘unnatural increase’ of Muslim population in Kokrajhar. Asaduddin Owaisi, an MP from Andhra Pradesh has recently threatened that Assam Riot might make Muslims in India more radicalised which attracted wide condemnation.
There are also reports of attack on Bodo youths in Andhra Pradesh in retaliation to riot in BTAD areas. We hope government will ensure safety of people of Assam in other states in India. This kind of riot incidents may again trigger violence in already tense districts in Assam.
