Mizo student killed in Punjab: North East Student organisations demand examplery punishment

A Mizo student Johnny F Lalhmangaih was thrashed to death after he had scored a goal during a friendly football match between students from Africa and Mizoram in the campus of Lovely Professional University (LPU), Jalandhar on Tuesday, 26th April 2011. Johny F Lalhmangaih Zuala (22) student of B Tech (Civil) Second year.

The North East Students’ Organization (NESO), All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), Asom Jatiyabadi Yuba Chattra Parishad (AJYCP) and several other organizations have condemned the recent murder of a Mizo student by African students in the campus of a university at Jalandhar in Punjab, demanded exemplary punishment to the killers, and urged the authorities concerned to provide adequate security for the youth from the Northeast studying in different parts of the country.

According to the post-mortem report, Lalhmangaih died of internal injuries. His relative from Chandigarh had come to take his body. His father works as a sub-divisional officer in the Public Works Department in Mizoram.

It is sad incident where a friendly football match between two student groups turned violent. We join in condoling his grieving parents.
