Manipur sportsperson shine in Delhi Commonwealth Games 2010

Tiny state with around 1.5million population in 1.1billion plus India, Manipur from North East India has won total seven medals in recently concluded Commonwealth Games 2010 held in New Delhi 3rd October to 14 October.

Among the seven medal hauls, three are golds, two silver and rest bronze. This has contributed a major chunk of Indian total 34 golds and making India second place in medal tally.

Total 16 sportsperson represented India the Commonwealth Games. They are : The 16 sportspersons from Manipur who took part in the New Delhi Commonwealth Games are– in archery–Kh Bhigyabati Chanu and L Bombela; in cycling–O Bikram, Ch Rameshori Devi, K Suchitra Devi, Y Sunita Devi, Th Helena Devi and H Benumala Devi; in boxing–Mayengbam Suranjoy; in hockey–Th Chanchan Devi; in weighlifting–Ng Soniya Chanu, A Sandhyarani Chanu, Y Renubala and L Monika Devi; in aquatic events–S Rabikumar and Ch Pushkar Meitei.

Apart from Manipur, Jayanta Talukdar from Assam won bronze medal in n the Mens Individual Recurve Archery

Manipur has been traditional power house in the field of sports and they perform very well in national games too.
