NSCN(IM) – Assam Rifles stand -off continues

Four days ago, NSCN (IM) had detained four Assam Rifles jawans and snatched their weapons. NSCN (IM) claims that these Assam Rifles Jawans were traveling in a truck and trying to tresspass their Hebron Camp area violating the ceasefire ground rules, so NSCN (IM) were forced to detain them.

Assam Rifles also retaliated by putting up ‘checking point’ in all the approach roads to Hebron Camp, off Dimapur and conducted intense frisking. They also detained four high ranking NSCN (IM) leaders for whole day who were going to Hebron camp for meeting. They were released in the evening.

Open Border with Myanmar should be maintained : Nagaland CM

Addressing the International Conference on Myanmar at Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi jointly organised by Jamia Millia Islamia University and Tampadipa Institute, Yangon on 31 Jan 2012, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has said that open border policy with Myanmar should not be disturbed, as it is working well.

Nagas like to build their houses at the top of the hills and as Indo-Myanmar border was drawn on the basis of water-shed, many Naga villages were cut into two halves by the international boundary,” the Nagaland chief minister said.

Nagaland may get its own flag: Naga issue nearing a solution

Sources close to MHA ( Ministry of Home Affairs) in Delhi has disclosed that the peace accord between government of India and NSCN (IM) is likely to be signed soon as both have reached to agreement on many points.
According to news reports, Nagaland would be given a special state status which will have its own flag, Naga nomenclature would be given in administrative posts in Nagaland. NSCN (IM) has been in talks with government of India for more than 10 years now.

Will Frontier Nagaland be reality now ?

Recently, Nagaland Government has recommended the Central government to create Sixth Schedule area comprising of our border districts of the State in view of the demand by the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) for a separate ‘Frontier Nagaland.

The decision to recommend the creation of the autonomous council under the provisions of the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution was taken at a Cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on 23rd Jul 2011.

Chekrovolu Swuro makes North East India proud

Chekrovolu Swuro. the archer from Nagaland, is part of Indian National Women Archery team had won silver medal at the World Championships in Turin, Italy recently and made North East India proud. She is also employed as Assistant Sub-Inspector in the Nagaland Police.

Nagaland Chief Minister has announced a cash award of Rs 3 lakh in recognition of her recent feat at an international level. Chekrovolu is scheduled to leave for the United States in a few days time to represent the country in another event.

NSCN-IM finally admits April 15 ambush

NSCN-IM ( National Socialist Council of Nagaland – Isaac Mivah) has finally admitted that they ambushed on MLA Wungnaoshang Keishing which killed eight people besides injuring six others on 15th April 2011. They also claim that the ambush was the result of some misunderstanding.

In the aftermath of the ambush, Pastors and Church leaders visited NSCN-IM leaders voluntarily and talked about averting such incidents of violence and killing in future. The NSCN-IM leaders told the visiting Church leaders that the ambush was a result of some misunderstanding, conveyed Wungnaoshang Keishing.

NSCN-IM will never accept Indian Constitution

Strongly reacting to the statement made by Union Minister of State for Planning Ashwani Kumar that the solution to the Naga political issue has got to be found within the framework of the Indian Constitution, NSCN (IM) retorted that, it will not accept Indian Constitution under any circumstances.

NSCN ( IM) has also termed Ashwani Kumar’s comment “an irresponsible statement” and which may hamper current peace talks to resolve half-a-century old Indo-Naga conflict.
