Inspiring story from North East India: IAS officer making 100KM road

Armstrong Pame is first IAS ( Indian Administrative Officer) from his Zeme tribe of Tamenglong district in Manipur where he serves as sub-divisional magistrate. He is making a 100KM road now christened Tamenglong-Haflong Road from his home district to Assam which will connect three states, Manipur, Nagaland and Assam. He is constructing the road without any government help.

As per news, government had sanctioned Rs. 101 crore way back in 1982 for the construction of the same road. No news about the money so far, but the road was not constructed and people from villages in Tousem used to walk 60KM for 25KGs of ration which took them about four days. And the ration of 25KGs lasted for about 10 days.

Devendro Singh Laishram lost in Quarter Finals

Devendro Singh Laishram, another boxer from Manipur, lost quarter final match against Paddy Barnes of Ireland 18 to 23 points. Devendro Singh went behind his opponent in first two rounds while he could score two more points in the final round.

In the second round, Devendro Singh was warned and got two points deducted making the score 10-5 in favour of Paddy Barnes. In the first round, Paddy Barnes was ahead by two points 5-3.

Mary Kom lost, settles for bronze

Mary Kom, a genuine hope for Olympic Gold medal has lost her bout against Nicola Adams of United Kingdom 6 -11. Mary Kom had fought bravely till the end, but Nicola Adams had the upper hand today from very beginning.

Mary Kom will now get a bronze medal increasing India’s medal tally to 3 bronzes in Olympics in London 2012. With Mary Kom’s loss, many Indians are disappointed! But it may be mentioned that, Mary Kom weighs just 48KGs and her category is 49KGs, but she had to compete at 52KGs weight category in Olympics as this time the 49KGs weight category was not there.

Magnificant Mary Kom storms into semifinal in Olympics Boxing 2012

As per expectation, MC Mary Kom reaches semifinal in Women’s 51KG Boxing in London Olympics 2012. SHe defeated Tunisian opponent Maroua Rahali 15-6 in the quarterfinal match today.

It may be mentioned that, she is not playing in her usual 49KG category where she plays in other Boxing tournaments. 49KG category is not included in London Olympics 2012.

M C Mary Kom carries Olympic Gold hope for India

Five time world champion MC Mary Kom, the woman boxer form Manipur, India will will face Poland’s Karolina Michalczuk – a former bantamweight (54kg) world champion – in her pre-quarterfinal bout tomorrow at 1830hrs (IST) in London Olympics 2012.

While India has so far won two medals ( one Silver and one Bronze), hope of India winning a gold now rests on the Manipur Boxer, mother of two.

Manipur Assembly Demands Introduction of ILP

Manipur Assembly has urged the centre to to extend the the Bengal EasternFrontier Regulation 1873 with necessary changes to the State to pave way for implementation of ILP ( Inner Line Permit) system in Manipur. ILP is now implemented in Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland.

Dr I Ibohalbi Singh, Opposition leader of All India Trinamool Congress moved a private member’s motion on the issue in the assembly house. The State Cabinet had earlier adopted the resolution in its meeting late last night.

Justice for Richard Loitam Demand is getting momentum

Loitam Richard, 19 years old stdent from Manipur died in Bangalore on April 18 night after allegedly beaten by two of his hostel mates. He was a first-semester architecture student of Acharya Institute of Technology in Chikka Banavara in Bangalore.

His death first made news in online portals from North East India and soon spread to social media like Twitter, Facebook. After that, CNN-IBN too caught on the news and now demand for justice equivalent of Jessica Lal.. etc. have been raised.

Congress wins in Manipur

Congress is all set to form government in Manipur for the third consecutive time after winning 38 seats and leading in another 6 seats ( at the time of this filing of this report). TMC ( Trinamul Congress) has won 7 seats and Mamta Banerjee, TMC chief and Chief Minister of West Bengal had campaigned for TMC candidates here.

BJP had not won any seat. PDF ( Peoples Democratic Front) had suffered major reverses this time with winning only one seat.
