ABSU to revive separate Bodoland state demand

All Assam Bodo Students Union ( ABSU ) has reiterated its separate Bodoland demand here in Udalguri Nalbari playground centrally observing Bodoland Martyrs’ Day. Many Bodo people gathered in the playground with various placards which read “No Bodoland, No Rest” all around.

Addressing the gathering, Pramod Boro, ABSU president said that the State and BTC Government has not fulfilled their assurances to the families Bodoland martyrs. According to him, a total of 1,135 people were killed indiscriminately during the Bodoland movement between 1987 to 1993.

It can be mentioned that BTAD ( Bodoland Territorial Area Districts) was formed after long armed struggle by BLT ( Bodoloand Liberation Tigers, now defunct) in 2003. Sixth Schedule of Indian constitution was specially amended to accommodate BTAD in 2003.

The demand for separate state by ABSU can be quite significant and pace had returned to Bodo dominated areas for last 10 years. Also, it will be interesting to observe how Hagrama Mahilary led present Bodoland Council react to such demand.
