Unpaid vendors occupied Reliance office for two days in Guwahati

In the middle of issue about a young girl molested by mob in Guwahati, another significant incident almost failed to make it to the news, that all Reliance Telecom Vendors occupied Reliance Telecom Limited ( RTL ) office at GS Road, Christianbasti, Guwahati for two days.

Sources reveals that, more than 50 vendors from Guwahati as well as other places in Assam and NE States had occupied Reliance office on 11 July 2012 and started living there. They were demanding to be paid their dues which is whopping 50 crores!

As per sources, they have not been paid their dues for last three/four year. The funniest thing is that Reliance had negotiated with the vendors to reduce their dues by 25 to 30% in March’11 with the assurance that all dues shall be paid by may 2011. They vacated the RTL office premise after two days and shouted slogans against present senior officials of RTL and choicest of abuses were hurled at them. After two days, there was agreement between vendors and RTL to pay the dues in phased manner.

The vendors have been facing many financial difficulties due to non-payment of the dues for long time.

It may be mentioned that, RTL was previously known as Assamese friendly establishment in Assam when Mr. CR Deka was the circle head for both Assam and NE Circle. But after Mr. CR Deka resigned, it is alleged that many Assamese employees were systematically removed and outsiders have started occupying their posts. Some senior Assamese officials of RTL also recently resigned. It is now controlled by West Bengal lobby like many other corporates in North East and it is understood that first choice for any vacancy is a candidate from WB.

Once upon a time, RTL was the only mobile service provider in Assam before other operators have started their service and RTL has been losing subscribers to its competition like Airtel, Aircel & Vodafone due to poor network and arrogance attitude of its some of its employees.
