Mising village burnt down at Jagun in Tinsukia district of Assam

As per reports,conflict erupted between the Mising and the Ahom community of Assam today over land issues. According to SP Tinsukia district, unidentified members’ of Ahom Chatra Parishad burnt down 12 houses belonging to the Mising Community in Sonalipam Village of Jagun  in Sadiya Sub-divison at Tinsukia district.

Report states that tension escalated when Ahom Chatra Parishad members’ forcibly tried to evict the Mising residents from Namphai reserve forest area by burning down their houses. To protest against this, the Mising’s blocked roads forcing the police to fire in the air to disperse the agitated crowd.

In this conflict one person Namely Chandra Nayak (66) has died and more than 20 people are injured. Senior Police and administrative officials are monitoring the situation closely. The Mising Students Union (TMPK) have demanded to arrest the miscreants and to compensate the affected families within 72 hours.

As of now, there is no official statement from the Government officials regarding this incident.
