Illegal Bangladeshi influx a national issue : Varun Gandhi

Varun Gandhi, cousin of Rahul Gandhi, a BJP ( Bharatiya Janata Party) national secretary and MP has opined that the illegal influx from Bangladesh is a national issue, on Wednesday, 8th September 2010 in Guwahati.

Varun Gandhi, son of late Sanjay Gandhi and Maneka Gandhi, is visiting Assam for the first time after he was entrusted with responsibility of Election in Assam in scheduled to be held in 2011 and he seems to be making the right noises!

Varun Gandhi is over seeing election preparation of BJP in Assam. When asked, what is his biggest challenge, he opined that his biggest challenge is not getting more seats to contest, but winning heart and mind of the people of Assam. It may be mentioned that AGP ( Asom Gana Parishad) and BJP ( Bharatiya Janata Party) has seat sharing arrangement being alliance partner in Assam.

Varun earlier in the day had addressed a convention of the party workers. This convention was attended by the State leadership including party national vice president Bijoya Chakravarti.

It may be significant that Varun Gandhi is entrusted with BJPs election strategy in Assam. Recently, Assam has seen rise of communal politics. Also there has been discussions in many forums where Muslim population becoming majority in many districts in Assam. According to internet forum, it is estimated that, Muslim voters control the outcome of 40 assembly seats in 126 member Assembly in Assam.

Varun Gandhi was arrested and jailed for few days after he allegedly gave communal inflammatory election speech in last General election which he won landslide from his constituency, Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh.

So, Varun Gandhis role in next Assam election would be interesting to watch.
