Like any other year, this year (2013), the first flood has arrived in Assam and s usual, worst affected district is Dhemaji on Northern Bank of India. As the incessant rain started i neigbouring Arunachal Pradesh, even smaller rivers are flowing in full capacity.
Jiadhal river, which was once known as “tears of Dhemaji”, is agin flooding this year rendering many villagers homeless.
Apart from Dhemaji district, Morigaon is bearing brunt of flood in the first wave of flood this year 2013. In this district, more than 5000 people have started living in relief camps set up by government due o water-logging in their villages.
With many dams being constructed in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam might see many flood and destruction in coming years. With recent Uttarkhand flood which claimed many lives, people in Assam are fearing for the worst in coming years once the dams in Arunachal Pradesh are completed.
