BPF not averse for alliance with AGP or BJP

In an interesting development, the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) leader and BTC (Bodoland Territorial Council) Chief Hagrama Mohilari has announced that they are not averse to form alliance with AGP, BJP or AIUDF.

“Let me make it very clear to the Congress that we have the option of supporting the AGP, BJP and the AIUDF and form an alternative government next month,” BPF chief Hagrama Mohilary told IANS, as reported in Assam Tribune.

Recently, during election campaign in Kokrajhar, Assam Pradesh Congress chief, Bhubaneswar Kalita had attacked BPF for not doing enough development a well as indulged in corruption and urged voters to vote for Congress candidate.

Reacting to that allegation, Pramilarani Brahma, minister in Tarun Gogoi cabinet, refuted those allegation and told that Congress is unable to form government in Assam without BPF support.

Congress and BPF are in alliance in at Dispur but they could not come to any seat sharing agreement and agreed to field candidates in BTAD areas for ‘friendly contest’ ( whatever that means). Hagrama Mohilari had campaigned for Congress candidates in upper Assam areas where BPF had not fielded any candidates.

In BTAD areas, BPF has stronghold and had always had clean sweep for last two elections. Most probably, Congress had thought that if it does not field any candidate, Congress will lose all organisation in BTAD areas and would be wiped out in future and always be dependent on BPF or any Bodo parties.

But interestingly, though they agreed for ‘friendly-contest’, Congress had lined up its top leaders to campaign for Congress candidates.

“We would form the next government and the BPF would continue to be our friend undoubtedly,” Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi told IANS.

BPF is likely to win 16 to 20 seats, claimed by Hagrama Mohilari who had 10 seats in the outgoing assembly. So, even if they retain 10 seats and AGP-BJPs number reaches 55 figure, with BPF support a non-Congress government can b formed in Assam!

It would be now very interesting if BPF decides to go with AGP in case of a hung assembly.
