According to Sentinel News paper in Assam, BJP ( Bharatiya Janata Party) has moved to Election Commission of India to ban NewsLive TV ( a small satellite channel, more famous as channel owned by powerful and controversial Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife ).
According to BJP’s national vice-president Mukthar Abbas Naqvi, News Live “is presently running as an agent of the Congress Party and screening programmes of the Congress and openly canvassing for them, which is nothing but a clear case of malpractice of paid news”.
The MD of the news channel, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, according to the BJP complaint, “is openly canvassing for the Congress party and clippings of the same are repeatedly telecast on the channel”. The complaint said the MD of the TV channel “is the wife of Himanta Biswa Sarma, a minister in the Congress-led government in the State” who is “also contesting election from the Jalukbari constituency”.
According to the complaint of the party, paid news is assuming an alarming proportion as a serious electoral malpractice.

While everyone in Assam has been voicing concern over TV channels openly taking sides with political parties, but this is the first time a political party has demanded t ban a channel. Many opine that NewsLive supports Congress while another channel supports AGP ( Asom Gana Parishad) as it seems to give lot of coverage on Akhil Gogoi.
