Assam’s NRC form does not have Place Of Birth Column

According to recent reports, Assam Government has decided to remove “Place Of Birth” column in its NRC ( National Register of Citizens). It is widely considered as an act of ruling Congress Government of Assam after bowing down to pressure by AAMSU (All Assam Minorities Students’ Union) which demanded change of the NRC form.

It may be mentioned that, the protest against NRC update resulted in few deaths at Barpeta in lower Assam in July 2010. After that incident, NRC update in Assam was stopped indefinitely.

AASU ( All Assam Student Union) has expressed unhappiness over halting of the NRC update as well as the new form. BJP ( Bharatiya Janata Party) has accused Tarun Gogoi, CM of Assam in getting involved by removing the place of birth column.

It may be mentioned here that, Ministry of Home Affairs had announced the rule of maintaining Indian Citizens on 10th December 2010. In its notification, it clearly mentions that “Place Of Birth” should be mentioned in the NRC. Para 3. (vi) on page 3 of the notification.

The notification can be viewed in censusindia.gov.in website here.

So, most probably, it does not require brain of a rocket scientist to infer why Congress Government constituted Cabinet subcommittee had removed that “Place Of Birth” column in its draft NRC form and who would be main beneficiary of such form.

It is time Congress leaders realise that people of Assam are capable of seeing through their nefarious designs, else they will be responsible for any unwanted incident in the future.
