ASSAM GIRL KAYUM PEGU DIES DAYS AFTER UBER ACCIDENT

14522982_1143890379020951_3529716634940105557_nAfter battling for her life for more than three days, Kayum Pegu, 20 lost her life, today morning. She had met with an accident, when the Uber cab, she and her friends were travelling in rammed into a speeding truck. Kayum along with 3 other friends were returning from Greater Noida to North Campus Delhi after attending a birthday party. She was undergoing treatment at Kailash Hospital, Noida after the accident.

While her friends are out of Danger, Kayum, who was seated in the middle rammed into the front glass due to the impact of the accident. She sustained multiple injuries in her brain, broken ribs which injured her lungs and created internal hemorrhages.

According to Tanuz Kalita, “The Uber driver was smoking and despite repeated requests from the passengers to stop, refused to do so. Moreover, when the Uber rammed into the truck, the driver, who escaped with minor injuries, instead of calling for help, fled the scene.”

The driver, however was arrested the same day. The police produced him in court and he was released on bail. “An FIR of rash and negligent driving was registered against the driver who was later identified as Viresh,” said Sector 20 station house officer, Amarnath Yadav.

Kayum was pursuing her Bachelors from Miranda House, Delhi University. She belongs to the Mising (Miri) community of Assam. Mising Student’s Association, Delhi, who has been constantly by her side and have assisted the family (Kayum’s parents) in every step, today put out a sad message in their Facebook post confirming the death.

“We are deeply saddened by the untimely demise of Kayum Pegu who has been battling for her life since the past one week. She had suffered multiple injuries brain damage, broken ribs which injured her lungs and created internal hemorrhages. No words can explain the fact that a beautiful soul is no more among us. It is still hard to digest for us a cheerful and loveable person has finally departed. A loving sister and a beloved friend has finally bid adieu to all of us. We all will miss her joyful and exuberant presence. Today, we stand by the side of her family who are going through difficult and tumultuous time. Let’s pray for them. Kayum your void will be felt. May you rest in peace”

The postmortem of Kayum’s body is being performed today and her body will be flown to Guwahati tomorrow morning.
