Assam Election 2011 Updates for last week – 2

Continuing with Assam Election 2011 update from last Sunday, here is the interesting updates again for last week. With Congress declaring its list of candidates for 118 seats in Assam, the contest pattern has almost emerged now.

Dissidents continue to trouble both AGP ( Asom Gana Parishad) as well as BJP ( Bharatiya Janata Party) as there are many ticket seekers either leaving party or deciding to contest as an independent. SOme major incidents of last week on Assam Election 2011 are :-

1. Congress declares its 118 candidates

Ruling Congress has declared its list for 118 candidates and on expected lines it has retained all powerful leaders in their respective seats. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi will cotest from Titabor while Himanta Biswa Sarma will contest from Jalukbari. Pijush Hazarika, president of youth Congress will contest from Raha ( Reserved SC) seat. Just after Congress list, AIUDF has also announced its first list of candidates.

2. BPF also announces its list

BPF ( Bodoland Progressive Front) has also announced its candidates. It has dropped Karendra Basumatari for Majbat and Karendra Basumatari has resigned from BPF and likely to contest as independent.

3. BJP and AGP announces more candidates

AGP ( Asom Gana Parishad) had formally offered two seats Jonai ( ST) and Majuli (ST) to Gana Sahakti while BJP had fielded Pradyut Bora against Himanta Biswa Sarma in Jalukbari constituency. This is one seat where many people would like to see a keen contest.

4. Arun Sarma and Joseph Toppo resigns from party posts

Joseph Topp, a giant killer who defeated M K Subba in last Loksabha election from Tezpur constituency as AGP candidate and former MP frm Lakhimpur had resigned from all party posts due to differences in candidate selection. Also, there is report that AGP members in Bihali have resigned to form a new party.
