Assam-Arunachal Border row : ULFA faction warns NSCN

There has been border disturbances in Charaipung area of Sivasagar district in Assam bordering Arunachal Pradesh. Assam has been routinely accusing Arunachal Pradesh of encroaching upon land of Assam while the later refuses.

The recent border dispute took an ugly turn, when NSCN (IM) militants supposedly fired upon Police vehicles of SP of Sivasagar district. NSCN (IM) has allegedly burnt down few houses in Charaipung area in an apparent bid to encroach upon land in Assam. Arunachal government denies the encroachment allegation.

But the interesting development is public statement given by pro-talk ULFA faction who came over ground few years ago led by Mrinal Hazarika of ULF’s dreaded 28th battalion of upper Assam. He has warned NSC against encroaching Assam land. It is reported that, few of them have also moved in to Charaipung area with arms and ammunition.

AASU is continuing with blockade against Arunachal Pradesh. Arunachal Pradesh has many Assamese people working in Arunachal Pradesh and they have appealed AASU to withdraw the blockade.

It may be mentioned that, Assam has border dispute with almost all other North Eastern states.
