Akhil Gogoi wins Young Indian leader award

Akhil Gogoi is one of the 10 chosen young Indian leaders by popular TV News channel CNN-IBN. The award ceremony will be held on 25th October 2010 in New Delhi were Akhil Gogoi will be honoured.

Akhil Gogoi is young peasant leader and secretary of KMSS ( Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti) who has been an active RTI activist and credited with exposing many corruption in various departments in Assam. Recently, he has been targeting Himanta Biswa Sarma for various corruption related charges.

Akhil Gogoi has also been spreading awareness among masses in Assam about the dangers posed by big dams in Arunachal Pradesh which are under construction. They hold massive rally in Guwahati where noted anti dam activist Medha Patekar also participated.

Opponents, majorly leaders of Youth Congress, routinely accuse Akhil Gogoi of being Maoists. Even Atanu Bhuyan, Editor in Chief of News Live TV, a small satellite channel in Assam owned by Himanta Biswa Sarma by proxy, has publicly accused Akhil Gogoi of being a Maoist in public forum Twitter.

Most probably, this recognition to Akhil Gogoi will help him create more awareness about imminent danger posed by big dams in North East India.
