30th October 2008 has been one of the darkest days in recent history of Assam where 18 bomb blasts took place all over Assam. It is reported that, it caused death of more than 77 people while injuring 470 injuries!
The bomb blasts ripped apart Guwahati, Barpeta, Bongaigaon and Kokrajhar towns in Assam. The explosions in Guwahati ripped through Pan Bazar, Fancy Bazar and Ganeshguri, which were crowded with shoppers and office goers. Three blasts occurred in Kokrajhar, with another possible grenade explosion; two in Bongaigaon and one in Barpeta.
After two years of the incident which ruined lives of many families, the culprits of the serial bob blast have yet to be ascertained and whole story is yet to be unearthed. It has been popular belief that outlawed NDFB ( National Democratic Front of Bodoland), ULFA ( United Liberation Front of Assam) were responsible for the serial bomb blasts with Jehadi help from Bangladesh. Many in Assam believe that Ranjan Daimary, now in judicial custody in Assam after his arrest in Bangladesh in May this year, is main culprit behind those serial bomb blasts on 30th October 2008. Many people in Assam have termed Ranjan Daimary as ‘Amir Kasab’ of Assam.
News Live TV, one small satellite channel based in Guwahati, is organising ‘Great Guwahati Run’ in memory of those killed in 30th October 2008 bomb blasts.
