Superintendent of Police of the Special Investigation Cell, MS Chauhan, went reportedly missing while traveling from Itanagar to Tawang, from Tippi around 2.30 pm on Tuesday, 15 Oct 2012.
Chauhan was appointed as the special investigating officer to probe the multi-crore PDS scam in Arunachal Pradesh in 2008 as per the directive of the Gauhati High Court following a PIL filed with the HC in 2004.
The matter was reported to the Bhalukpong police station around 5 pm after the inspector and the constable unsuccessfully searched for their boss for more than two hours in Tippi and its vicinity, informed West Kameng SP T T Lama.
Even though he ruled out any possibility of the senior IPS officer being kidnapped citing that the place where Chauhan got down from the vehicle was reasonably a busy area, the district SP said a kidnapping case against unknown person(s) has been registered with the Bhalukpong PS and a search and combing operation is on.
