Political Development in Arunachal Pradesh after SC verdict

After Supreme Court re-instated Nabm Tuki led Congress government in Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday 13 July 2016. Soon after the verdict, Nabam Tuki, who was in New Delhi, had assumed charge as Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh at Arunachal Bhawan in New Delhi.

He has informed governor of Arunachal Pradesh Tathagata Roy about his assuming charge as CM after the supreme court verdict.

Predictably, Kalikhu Pul, the CM of PPA ( Peoples Party of Arunachal), formed by Kalikhu Pul with MLAs who have left Congress, has put up a brave face and declared that he would petition for review of the verdict. Also he claims that he has number to form government.

In North East India, it is observed that, people try to elect the party which is in power in Centre. It makes sense too as these small states with special category status, heavily dependent on central government for funds.

So, PPA, which is part of NEDA, ( NorthEast Democratic Aliance), formed after BJPs win in Assam in last assembly election, likely to retain majority and may form government again in Arunachal Pradesh after floor test of Nabam Tuki Led government.

Nabam Tuki has urged those MLAs who have left Congress to join Kalikhu Pul to come back to Congress. Presently, PPA has 30 MLAs on its own and supported by 11BJP MLA and two independents in a 60 member Assembly out of which 2 are vacant. While Congress has just 15MLAs. So, it seems unlikely that These Cong MLAs would come back to Congress.

Either way, it would be interesting how this political drama unfolds in next few weeks. Most probably, Governor would call for floor test in next assembly session itself.
