PK Thungon gets 4.5 years jail term for corruption

PK Thungon, Congress Leader and former Union Urban Development Minister, has been sentenced to 4.5 years in jail as well as fined of Rs. 10000. He was convicted of corruption on 21st July 2015 and was taken into judicial custody since.

He was sentenced by a Delhi court, where he was charged with misappropriation of Rs two crore relesed by the Centre in 1998 by CBI.

68 years old Pk Thungon was also former Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh and he is a resident of Bomdila in Arunachal Pradesh.

The court awarded three-and-a-half years imprisonment to the two other convicts, Tali AO and C Sangit, while fourth convict Mahesh Maheshwari was awarded two-and-a-half years jail term in the case. It imposed a fine of Rs 6,000 on Tali AO and that of Rs 4,000 each on Sangit and Maheshwari.

During arguments held earlier in the day, CBI had sought “approporiate sentence” for Thungon and the three other convicts.
