Nido Tania: Latest victim of ‘racial attack’ in New Delhi

One 19 year old student from Arunachal Pradesh, Nido Tania was beaten up mercilessly when he protested by breaking glass of a shop when he was racially taunted for his looks and his ‘Korean’ hair style! This happened on 29 January 2014 at Lajpat Nagar, New Delhi when he was holidaying in New Delhi from Jalandhar where he was a student.

According to his family, he was taunted by shop keepers for his hair style. And then out of anger he broke glass of the shop and then he was beaten by shop keepers and his friends. Also, he was made to pay Rs. 11,000/- for the broken glass. After that police was called he Nido Tani and his friends were taken to Police Station.

The police has little different version to tell.

But after social media, specially Twitter was abuzz with Nido Tania’s killing, TimesNow TV had conducted NEWSHOUR debate on the topic by Arnab Guswami. Then political parties have started joining the protest against the killing.

BJP’s Prime Minister Candidate was first to raise the issue in his Meerut Rally. As if on clue, Congress vice president, Rahul Gandhi went to Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, where students from North East India have been protesting, and took part in the protest. He had assured of taking quick action against culprits.

Today, Mr. Arvind Kejriwal, CM of Delhi of AAP party also went to Jantar Mantar to take part in the protest with students from North East India.

Meanwhile Ninong Ering, MOS in Union Government from Arunachal pradesh took representatives of North East students to meet union home minister Sushil Shinde along with noted activist Binalaxmi Nepram of Manipur. Home minister assured of magisterial enquiry into the incident.

By afternoon, PM Dr. Manmohan Singh has also come out with statement condemning the incident and met Mr. Ninong Ering and representative from students of NE India.
