25th North East Games will start from 25th April 2011 at Dirang

The 25th edition of North East Games, 2010-11 would begin from 25th April at Dirang, West Kameng district in Arunachal Pradehs. Mre than 1500 sportsperson from North Eastern states Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya as well as Sikkim will participate in this Sports meet.

Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Ajay Maken is scheduled to inaugurate the region’s biggest sports extravaganza as chief guest at Lopen Stadium, Dirang.

Host Arunachal Pradesh is fielding a record 182-strong contingent in 11 disciplines, viz. Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Football, Judo, Karate, Table Tennis, Taek-won-Do, Weightlifting and Wushu. Of the 182 athletes, 103 are male and 79 female.

The sports events will be conducted at Dirang, Bomdila and Rupa. While Judo, Badminton, Karate, Taek-won-Do and football would be held at Dirang Archery, Boxing, Table Tennis would be held at Bomdila. Track & Field events and Wushu would be held at Rupa, according to Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs (S&YA) sources.

The hosts are expecting to reap rich rewards from Karate, Boxing, Taek-won-Do, Weightlifting and Wushu. Besides the hosts would look up to their Archers, Shuttlers, Paddlers and Judukas to boost the medals scoop from the Games. Also this time, the state is fielding a strong contingent in athletics.
