IROM SHARMILA LAUNCHES NEW PARTY-WILL CONTEST ELECTIONS IN 2017

indexNoted Human rights activist, Irom Sharmila launched a new political party called, Peoples Resurgence and Justice Alliance (PRAJA) on Tuesday.

According to her the new party would contest elections in the upcoming elections in 2017 in Manipur and field as many as 20 candidates. She herself will take on the current Chief Minister of Manipur, Ibobi Singh.

On August 9, the 44-year-old Sharmila, who is also referred as ‘Iron Lady’ broke her 16-year-old hunger strike, the world’s longest such campaign, and declared that she wants to become the chief minister of Manipur so that she could press for repeal of the contentious Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA).

The party will continue to fight against AFSPA and will follow the principles of peace, justice and love, highlighted Irom Sharmila.
