Gerukamukh Dam And KMSS, Akhil Gogoi etc.

As the completion of NHPC’s 2000MW hydel power project nearing completion at Gerukamukh, Assam-Arunachal Border, the agitation led by KMSS ( Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti) too seems to be peaking. Recently, KMSS has threatened economic blockade against Arunachal Pradesh. Arunachal( West) MP Takam Sanjay of Congress has retorted by demanding to ban KMSS on national interest!

Recently, many vehicles carrying equipments to project site at Gerukamukh have been stranded on NH52 at various places due to blockade created by KMSS and its supporting organisations. Among its supporting organisations, TMPK ( Takam Mising Porin Kebang or All Mising Student Union) has large population living on the banks of river Subansiri for centuries!

Bodo Organisations National Seminar on Smaller States in New Delhi

ABSU ( All Bodo Students Union) had organised a national seminar at Club of India on Tuesday, 6th December 2011 in New Delhi with the topic ‘Issues of separate States in India: Problems and perspectives’. Many prominent personalities took part in the seminar which included former Speaker P A Sangma, Rajya Sabha MP Bedabrata Biswas, Chavan Garg, Chandan Mitra, UG Brahma among others.

Leaders of various Bodo organisations have supported the creation of smaller states while noted journalist Kuldeep Nayyar was the lone voice to oppose creation of Bodoland in Assam.

Tarun Gogoi nominated for Indian Politician of The Year 2011 by CNN IBN

Tarun Gogoi, the consecutive third time Chief Minister of Assam, has been nominated for Indian of The Year 2011, Politics category by CNN-IBN, New Delhi based English news channel.
Tarun Gogoi would compete for the award with the other nominees in the category include Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu J Jayalalithaa, Union Minister for Rural Development Jairam Ramesh, Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee, Union Minister for Law and Justice and Minority Affairs Salman Khurshid, former Union ministers Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley (jointly).

Imphal blast ahead of Indian PM visit kills one

A powerful IED blast at the gate of ongoing Manipur Sangai Festival venue at Hafta Kangjeibung ground in Manipur’s Imphal East district has killed one rickshaw-puller and injured two women. Police suspect that the bomb was given to the rickshaw-puller by militant of Kangleipak Communist Party (MC) to leave the bomb at the festival site.

The deceased rickshawpuller has been identified as Md Kora who hailed from Mayang Imphal Irong in Imphal West district and presently resided in a rented house at Hatta here.
