Today is Ningol Chakouba Festival in Manipur

Today ( 28th October) is Ningol Chakouba Festival in Manipur which is yearly observed on second day of the New Moon in the Manipuri month of Hiyangei which falls October/November.
Ningol -Chakkouba which means “grand feast arranged for sisters” is kind of “sisters day” – the great festivity of the sisters or daughters of Manipur.

The sisters who are married off to distant places are invited back to parental home and a feast is organised and gifts exchanged.

Preliminary talks held between ULFA and Government: Peace in Assam ?

Preliminary talks held between pro-talk ULFA ( United Liberation Front of Asom) leaders and representative of Government of India and Government of Assam was held yesterday which lasted 90 minutes at North Block, New Delhi on Wednesday, 25th October 2011.

As per report, Pro-Talk ULFA was represented by ‘chairman’ Arabinda Rajkhowa, Foreign Secretary Shashadhar Choudhuri while Government of India was represented by union home secretary R.K. Singh and Jishnu Barua led government of Assam along with other top home ministry officials.

North East Girl assaulted in Delhi

A North Eastern girl in Delhi was molested on 16th October 2011, at 10:30PM while she was using a public telephone booth. She belong to Naga community from North Eastern state of Manipur. According to NE Support And Helpline posting, a boy of the same community was also beaten up by some localites who rushed out to help the victim helping the molester escape.

A Naga Student body rushed to Timapur police station and lodged a complaint against the molester. A case is register under FIR 224/2011 and two men who attacked the boy and allowed the molester to fled are detained in police station without any FIR is registered against them until the filing of the report. The man who assaulted the girl is absconding.

Already people have got to know that a fraud company namely Unipay2u looted multi-crore rupees from Assam.The company run by one Pranabjyoti Barman, promising heavy return, cheated a large number of investors from Assam. Police have registered cases against the company as well as Pranabjyoti Barman and started investigation after receiving complaints from the investors.
But the police could not arrest the culprits except seizing properties possessed illegally by them and some documents.The Unipay2u Company as it reflected itself as a gold trading company based in Malayasia.

70 days of Manipur Blockade

The Manipur Blockade ( blocking oh NH 39 and NH 53, lifeline of Manipur) by SHDCC (Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee) has completed 70 days yesterday which started on 31st July 2011, which is the longest blockade in the history of Manipur.

SHDCC is demanding creation of Sadar Hills district while UNC (United Naga Council) is opposing the demand. UNC has also called for counter blockade of NH 150 since August 21.

9 students injured in police firing in Roing, Arunachal Pradesh

In a sad incident, nine students including one girl were injured apart from another civilian at Roing, Arunachal Pradesh yesterday late evening on 5th October 2011, according to reports by Dibang News. They were immediately rushed to Roing Hospital and later they were referred to Dibrugarh as conditions were critical.

According to one witness, police chased and fired at the group of students on the streets of Roing bazaar. The gun shots rattled the streets for almost ten minutes, said the witness.
