Amir Khan supports repeal of AFSPA : JPF Press Release

New Delhi, Ramlilla Ground, August 28, 2011 : Bollywood Actor Amir khan says “Armed Forces Special Powers Act 1958 should be repealed. I Support Irom Sharmila! I don’t think there is any provision in the Indian constitution to deny meeting with people in custody.”

The coordinator of Just Peace Foundation, Seram Rojesh in Delhi briefed Bollywood actor Armir Khan at Ramleela ground, New Delhi about the condition of Irom Sharmila who has been fasting in the last 10 years on 27/8/2011. She would be completed her fast for 11 years fast on coming 4 November, 2011. She is not allowed to meet people freely including her family members by imposing many procedures by the government. It takes many months to get clearance from government even to meet her.

Ceasefire Agreement with ULFA likely now

A formal ceasefire agreement may soon take place between pro-Talk group of ULFA, led by its founder president Arabinda Rajkhowa, after it is reported that pro-talk ULFA group has been invited to Delhi for discussion on 3rd September 2011. It may be mentioned here that, pro-Talk ULFA group had declared ceasefire unilaterally on 13 July 2011.

It is expected that, the rules of ceasefire would be same in line with present NDFB and other rebel groups in North East India, which are in ceasefire agreement and talks with government of India.

India dividing Manipur : RK Meghen, UNLF Chairman

Arrested and jailed UNLF Chairman RK Sanayaima has accused India of adopting divisive policy deliberately treating the different communities on different scales to breed hatred and animosity among the indigenous peoples of Manipur.
He was speaking to media persons at the Court complex of NIA Special Judge at Guwahati on 25th Augst 2011 when he was produced. “It’s time to work and make Manipur self-reliant instead of harping that NH 39 and NH 53 are our life lines”, Sanayaima asserted.

It may be mentioned that it is almost 25 days, Manipurs lifeline NH 53 is blocked by various demands.
Even though it is 64/65 years since Manipur was allegedly annexed to India, there is no sign of development in Manipur till date, Sanayaima added.

Arunachal District Facing Food crisis after landslide

A remote district, Kurung Kumey, in Arunachal Pradesh, ordering China, is facing severe food crisis as many places here are cut off from rest of the world since July 19, 2011 following massive landslides triggered by incessant rainfall. The State Government has allocated very little air tonnage, limiting it to almost two ration sorties, which is completely insufficient to meet the requirements of the local populace.

Kurung Kumey is a remote district mainly inhabited by Nyishi tribe belonging to Abo Tani family. There are many tribes belong to Abu Tani family in other districts, they are Apatani in Lower Subansiri,Galo in Upper Subansiri, Tagin in Upper Subansiri.

Learn AFSPA : A 4 page law for North East India

Rumour says that The Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958, shortly known as AFSPA, which was specially enacted at the insistence of J L Nehru, after he was reportedly humiliated by Naga people when they deserted the meeting venue as soon as J L Nehru ( the then Prime Minister of India) stood up to deliver his speech. Stories are abound that Nehru was so angry that he shouted that he would teach a lesson to Nagas and if required, he would deploy as many security forces as the number of trees in Nagaland, but will not bow down to their demand.
So he devised AFSPA as soon as he went back to Delhi. Apart from this rumour, every democratic person in India should learn about AFSPA 1958, so we have copied and pasted from the document available online in Ministry of Home affairs website. Here is the link to the document :

Anna Hazare supporters protest in front of PM Manmohan Singh house in Guwahati

More than hundred supporters of Anna Hazare today demonstrated in front of the official address of Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in Guwahati.

Protestors shouted slogans against Congress Government, also sang parody songs mocking at him. They are demanding implementing of Jan Lokpal bill and withdrawing of Lokbal bill which was tabled in Lo Sabha.

North East India witnessed boycott of independence day celebration for almost 30 years now by various insurgent groups. But recent years have witnessed improvement in participation of general public in the independence celebration!

3 North East States grew richer while Assam fare poorly

Per Capita Income (PCI),which indicates an average earning of a person, of three North Eastern States, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Sikkim has grown substantially in 2009-2010 and has surpassed national average of Rs. 33,731. The per capita income, in Arunachal Pradesh has increased to Rs 39,679 in the year 2009-10 against Rs 27,271 in 2004-05.

As per the figure, the per capita income in Sikkim increased to Rs 36,075 in 2009-10 from Rs 26,693 in 2004-05 while average earning of people in Mizoram rose to Rs 35,323 from Rs 24,662 in the same period.
