Full Scholaship for meritorious Assamese student from NSF

Nanda Talukdar Foundation (NTF), based in Guwahati, Assam is looking for applications from meritorious students with high academic record ( preferably top 10% in Class X and Class XII boards exams) and who have got admissions into various professionals courses like Engineering, Medical, Dental, Nursing, Polytechnic, Agriculture, Pharmaceutical and Veterinary but facing financial constraints.

This scholarship would be provided by North South Foundation, based in USA. NTF is responsible for Assam chapter. The scholarship will cover all expenses for the course.

Bulk SMS banned in Assam

The Assam government has banned bulk SMS system in the state, with an aim to prevent the facility becoming a platform for instigating public in context to any political or social happening. The administration has directed the service providers to enforce this ban.

Recently, it has been experienced that cell phones have been turning a tool to pitch one’s voice and popularize a thought. Mobile service providers in the state have been asked to ban bulk SMS system. After the circulation of the order all leading mobile companies dispatched emails to their offices across Assam.

NSCN-IM finally admits April 15 ambush

NSCN-IM ( National Socialist Council of Nagaland – Isaac Mivah) has finally admitted that they ambushed on MLA Wungnaoshang Keishing which killed eight people besides injuring six others on 15th April 2011. They also claim that the ambush was the result of some misunderstanding.

In the aftermath of the ambush, Pastors and Church leaders visited NSCN-IM leaders voluntarily and talked about averting such incidents of violence and killing in future. The NSCN-IM leaders told the visiting Church leaders that the ambush was a result of some misunderstanding, conveyed Wungnaoshang Keishing.

Anshu Jamsenpa selected for prestigious Young Indian Leader Award 2011

Itanagar 24 June: Anshu Jamsenpa, the young lady mountaineer from the border State of Arunachal Pradesh has been selected to receive the prestigious Young Indian Leader Award 2011 in New Delhi on 30th June next. She is the first from the State to be nominated for this award.

All hospitality including transportation, return air fare for two and accommodation in 5 Star Hotel Taj Palace is being accorded to her.

President APCC and Minister PWD & UD Nabam Tuki extended hearty congratulations to Anshu Jamsenpa for her record mountaineering feat and for winning the Young Indian Leader Award 2011.

KMSS LEADER AKHIL GOGOI ARRESTED

The sole strong peasant organization of Assam,Krishak Mukti Sangram Samity(KMMS) General Secretary Akhil Gogoi was arrested today from his residence at Nijarapar ,Guwahati for his involvement with the Wednesday’ violence. He was taken to the Panbajar Police station amid tight security. Gogoi was picked up from the premises of the Guwahati press club where he has organized a press conference.

On Wednesday three people including a 9 year old child were dead at Dispur Last gate in alleged indiscriminate firing of police. Gogoi,who has been raising voice against corruption and construction of mega dams at upper parts of the mighty Brahamputra and its tributaries may be locked under National security Act.

Twenty people injured in police lathicharged

Atleast twenty people were injured during police lathicharged today, Wednesday , when they staged a demonstration in front of the Dispur Last gate protesting against the eviction of the hill-side areas of Guwahati city by forest department.

The incident occurred at around 1 P.M.The protesters were led by Krishak Mukti Sangram Samity general secretary who was also injured in the police crackdown. Gogoi and other injured people were admitted in the hospital.According to report he was admitted in the Good Health Hospital near Down-town hospital .

UFO sighted in Manipur

IMPHAL, June 19 Believe it or not, mystery shrouded Ngankha Lawai village in Manipurs Bishnupur district, 35 kms south of here after a young farmer fainted and was hospitalised following an encounter with an Unidentified Flying Object (UFO).

The mysterious incident occurred when the 31 year-old farmer Koiremba Kumam was taking video of a fish farm near his house using his mobile phone on June 15 around 3.11 pm.

Suddenly, I captured mashak khangdaba potsak ama (UFO) in the sky, the farmer said. I fainted for a few seconds after a small round black object sped towards me.

Ambubachi Mela at Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati from 23 June

The yearly Ambubachi Mela will be celebrated from 23 June 2011 for three days in Kamakhya temple on the Nilachal Hill in Guwahati, Assam. This mela is celebrated every year during Assamese month ‘Ahar’ when it is believed that goddess of the temple, Devi Kamakhya, the Mother Shakti, goes through her annual cycle of menstruation during this time.

Lakhs of pilgrims from all over India visit Kamakhya temple during this mela. This year too, more than 12 lacs people are expected to visit during Ambubachi Mela, as per Guwahati Metro district administration.
