Union budget : What it offers to North East India

After Rail Budget on 25th February 2011, Union budget was also presented today by Union Finance minister. Incidentally, this year both finance minister and Railway Minister are from West Bengal and of Bengali origin. Union Railway budget had offered few announcements about connecting Manipur as well as few trains.

The new trains announced connecting North Eastern towns are aimed at carrying Indian defence forces as well as outsiders than local population in North East India. For example, Railway Minister had started one train from Guwahati to Dimapur and a train from Guwahati to Jaipur. There are already daily trains running between Guwahati and Dimpaur while except Marwaris living in North East India, not many North Easterner travel to Jaipur.

Manipur Sports person shine in 34th National Games

Manipur players have lived up to expectation by holding on to second spot in the medal tally in 34th National Games being held in Ranchi, Jharkhand since 12 February 2011. Manipur is at second position with medal tally reads 38 gold, 25 silver and 25 bronze while Services at number one with 52 Gold, 37 SIlver and 25 Bronze.

Manipur players have won gold in any categories where they participated like Archery, Wushu, Cycling, Sprint etc. Ishembi Devi Thounaojam, Nirmala Devi Sanabam, Pravahini Devi Konthoujam, Sanjita Devi Maibam won gold in Archery.

Plebiscite Under United Nations in Manipur : UNLF Chief

UNLF (United National Liberation Front) chief Rajkumar Meghen alias Sanayaima has again renewed his offer to lay down arms before UN ( United Nations) authorities so that plebscite can be conducted in Manipur in the presence of UN representatives and arrange for the deployment of UN peacekeeping forces in Manipur, North East India.

He also told that, this is the only way to end resolve the ‘conflict’. The UNLF will deposit arms to the UN authorities on a date prior to the plebiscite and will abide by whatever decision the people give. Reports The Hindu.

Maoist in North East India : A fact now

According to MHA ( Ministry of Home Affairs) Maoist has set up their own units in North East India as well which is a clear deviation from their earlier decision of supporting ‘nationalistic’ armed struggle by insurgents operating in Assam and North East India, reports Assam Tribune.

The recent arrest of three youths ( Aditya Bora, Singh Raj Orang and Ashik Sabar) from Assam in a camp of the Maoist rebels in a jungle area bordering Orissa and Jharkhand exposed the fact that an Upper Assam Committee of the Maoists is already active in Assam.

Baba Ramdev called “Bloody Indian Dog” by Congress MP

According to Times of India Report, Congress MP from Arunachal Pradesh Ninong Ering called Yog Guru Baba Ramdev “Bloody Indian Dog” on Saturday 19 February 2011 at his yoga camp in Arunachal Pradesh’s Pasighat town. MP Ninong Ering who was attending the yogo camp, suddenly stood up and allegedly used unparliamentarily and derogatory words when the yoga guru was highlighting the corruption in the country.

Taking exception to the insult, the yoga guru’s spokesperson S K Tijarawala threatened that Ering wouldn’t be allowed to come to Delhi to attend Parliament.

ULFA threatens Congress in Assam

In a surprising development, it is reported that ULFA’s anti-talk faction led by self styled Commander In Chief Paresh Barua had threatened Congress to launch armed strike against it. According to Times Of India, ULFA mailed them warning people to stay away from Congress meetings ahead of Assam assembly election due in April 2011.

ULFA had accused Congress of trying to weaken ULFA by splitting it. ULFA will attack Congress with arms and they are requesting people not to attend their meetings as they do not want to harm.
