Separate State demand within Nagaland Now!

In an interesting twist of events in trouble-torn Nagaland in North East India, Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) has demanded that separate state with name of “Frontier Nagaland” be carved out of present day Nagaland state comprising of four districts Tuensang, Mon, Kiphire and Longleng!

ENPO leaders maintain that they no longer can remain as part of the present Nagaland as the hope for development under the present condition is impossible. Naga tribes Konyak, Khiamniungan, Chang, Yimchunger, Sangtam and Phom are the main communities in the ENPO organisation.

KMSS plans for massive rally over NC Hills scam on 10th January 2011

Farmer organisation Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) announced on 28th Dec 2010 that it would conduct a massive rally in Guwahati at Dispur Last Gate on January 10 next in support of its demands in connection with the multi-crore-rupee scam in the NC Hills ( now Dima Hasao) Autonomous Council.

The charismatic and popular farmer leader Akhil Gogoi has been demanding resignation of Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi over this NC Hills scam for his ‘alleged’ involvement. This rally may make Congress high command in Delhi in view of the next coming election as well as news of various scams all over country for last few months!

How Congress Can come back to power in 2011 Assam Assembly Election ?

The quick answer to above question, how Congress can come back to power again in 2011 Assam Assembly election, is by forming coalition! Congress party in Assam has resigned to the fact that they can not now come back power on their own till BPF ( Bodoland People’s Front) and AUDF (Asom United Democratic Front) exist in Assam. Many believe that Congress mainly gets votes from minority community, tribal communities as well as tea estate workers.

Many opine that it is almost certain that Congress will come back to power again in 2011 election, may be with reduced number of seats, but they are in much stronger position to form an alliance of multiple parties to form government.

Irom Sharmila awarded 12th Signature Sarva Gunah Sampannah Award

The Signature Peace Award to Irom Sharmila was conferred by the 12th Signature Sarva Gunah Sampannah Award Selection Committee in recognition of her unwavering dedication and selfless sacrifice for the people of Manipur in particular and North East in general, at the premises of the security ward of the JN Hospital where she is being currently lodged and force-fed.

The peace award carries a cash prize of Rs 25,000, a citation and a trophy laced with an ethnic Assamese headgear and shawl.

How AGP can win coming Assam Assembly Election ?

AGP ( Asom Gana Parishad an emotionally charged party created after 1985 AASU Accord ) is routinely written off recently by all types of media as well as intellectuals in Assam while maintaining that Congress is certain to come back to power again for the third time in a row.

While, AGP is not favourably high lighted in recent media, the hard facts of the results from 2006 points a slide of vote share by Congress from 2001 assembly election by 7.05 percentage points while AGP has increased its vote share by 0.37 percentage points, despite the fact that Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, two time chief minister left AGP to form AGP(P) who got vote share of 2.51 %.

One more local TV Channel launched in Assam

News Time Assam, a new Assamese satellite channel would be formally launched tomorrow by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi at Guwahati. This was announced by Gautam Kundu, chairman and managing director, Rosevalley, and Pratap Bordoloi, chief editor, News Time Assam during a press conference today.

He also informed that the channel would organise educational competitions with awards, reality shows, promote scholarships and customer care oriented programme to attract viewers.

Arunachal Pradesh journalists go on indefinite strike

The front pages of all the dailies in Arunachal Pradesh appeared blank today in protest against the government’s failure to arrest the persons involved in the recent attacks on two senior reporters with The Sentinel’s Arunachal Pradesh edition. Northeastblog.in has also decided to put a blank white image supporting this strike.

Members of the media fraternity today staged a dharna on the market complex here. They condemned the growing attacks on mediapersons and the government’s silence on the matter. Members of the press, led by the Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) and Arunachal Press Club (APC), have resolved to go on indefinite pen-down strike until the arrest of the culprits.

North East India in WikiLeaks : Its terror not Delhis priority

Terror activities in northeast part of the country are not a priority for the government as civilian deaths due to terrorism in the region have fallen in recent years, says a leaked US embassy cable. The cable dated April 18, 2006 released by WikiLeaks and posted in the Guardian says terrorism in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura and Meghalaya “consists of many groups that are small in number compared to other terrorist organisations in India, and their reach does not extend out of the region”.Some of the groups maintain bases in Bangladesh, the cable says, quoting the Indian government and media reports.
