Two reasons why Himanta Biswa Sharma should be given a chance

Recently, there has been attack going n constantly against Himanta Biswa Sharma. Notable opponent are Mr. Akhil Gogoi, KMSS leader who needs no introduction and Mr. Bhuban Pegu, an independent MLA from Jonai who supported Congress Government in Assam during its initial formation period.

Without going into details of merits for attacking HBS ( as Himanta Biswa Sharma is popularly known in internet forums), there are two reasons why HBS should be spared and continue in his work, specially his work in Guwahati and Health sector in Assam.

1. About Guwahati

After HBS has taken over GMDA, Guwahati has witnessed Assamese youths dominating business activities which was other wise dominated by non-Assamese community. It may be unethical undemocratic or what ever, the point is, Assamese youths are getting employed, are being part of growing business activities in Guwahati and it will surely benefit Assamese society in the long run. In the short term, it may benefit few of the Assamese youths, but in the long run, it will surely benefit Assamese society as a whole.

Bhuban Pegu dares to prove graft charges

Bhuban Pegu, an independent MLA from Jonai, one of the most backward sub division of Assam, has alleged that News Live, a TV channel owned by a minister, ( an obvious reference to Himanta Biswa Sharma) has started campaign to tarnish his image.

It may be mentioned that, the rivalry between the two ex-General secretary of prestigious Cotton College, Guwahati, goes back 1992 when Himanta Biswa Sharma and Bhuban Pegu were pitted against each other. At that time, Bhuban Pegu won landslide against Himanta Biswa Sharma, but in real life political life, Himanta Biswa Sharma has left Bhuban Pegu far behind.

M K Subba is absconding

M K Subba, ( Mani Kumar Subba), the controversial EX-MP of Tejpur constituency is now absconding to evade arrest for rape charges (253/10) filed against him in Chandmari police station in Guwahati, the former MP has been absconding. The police today searched for M K Subba but failed to trace him.

When contacted, the Chandmari police station OC said that Subba was absconding. “If we get, we will arrest him,” he said. After the High Court’s judgment on the bail plea of Subba, the Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee (APMCC) has also started to look at Subba with suspicion. The committee demanded punishment to Subba if the charges against him are proved.

China has links with NE Rebels : NSCN (K) Leader

As per recent Hindustan Times report, senior Naga leader of NSCN(K) faction, Mulatonu has admitted that China has links with NE rebels and Chinese come to meet them legally come to India, via Delhi and then come to North East India and meet them. According to him, the latest meeting took place in 2009.

It was always suspected that, Chinese have links with NE rebels, but there was never any concrete evidence or admission by any senior rebel leaders. Indian Intelligence has knowledge about these meetings and they think these meetings are probably for small arms deals!

AASU warns against NRC form change!

AASU has spoken against changing NRC form along with demanding resumption of NRC update at earliest date possible. But if the recent AMSU incident at Barpeta as well as the immediate fall out of the incidence is any indication, then it looks that resumption of NRC update might take some time now.

Criticizing both the AAMSU and the State government for the Barpeta incident and its aftermath, Bhattacharya said that suspending the work due to an ‘undemocratic protest’ by the minority students’ body the government is encouraging the AAMSU to communalize the whole issue. “The incident took place at Barpeta, but the pilot project was also stopped in Chhayagaon, which also shows that the government is acting as the benefactor of the illegal Bangladshis,” he mentioned.

NRC Update : 4 Killed in Barpeta, Assam

Four students belonging to minority community killed in police firing in Barpeta, Assam as per reports. Many people injured violence after the police firing and death of the students. The students, belonging to All Assam Minority Students Union, were protesting against pilot project of NRC update.

As per report, But the agitating students turned violent as soon as they reached DC office and resorted to stone pelting at police and security forces stationed there. They also broke many windows, set fire to vehicles. Many police personals including senior officers got injured. Then police and security forces tried o disperse the gathering students using tear gas shells, lath charge before resorting to firing.

ULFA leaders held in Bangladesh : India waits for confirmation

Bangladesh is yet to inform India on the arrest of two United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) militants from its soil.
“We have seen the reports in the newspapers (arrest of two ULFA militants in Bangladesh), but till now the Bangladesh authorities haven’t confirmed the arrests to India officially,” GK Pillai Union Home Secretary told Nagaland Post over the phone from New Delhi. If the reports were true then India would certainly ask Bangladesh to hand over the two ULFA fugitives to India to stand trail, Pillai said, “We will surely ask for their handover to India through proper diplomatic channels.”
Top United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) leader Ranjan Chowdhury, whose arrest was announced by the Bangladesh authorities Saturday, had assumed a Muslim name, Masud Chowdhury, to evade detection and had been picked up by police six weeks ago, said a media report here Sunday.
Chowdhury had also married a local girl, a common trait among Indian militants who cross the border into Bangladesh to evade arrest.
Chowdhury was arrested and paraded before the media here Saturday. According to The New Nation, he “is probably the same Masud Ranjan Chowdhury” picked up by the police six weeks ago. He was arrested by plainclothes policemen June 6 from Rumpa Clinic in Mymensingh town where he was admitted after being injured.

Hagrama asks Akhil to work in BTC

BPF leader Hagrama Mohilary on Sunday dubbed Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) secretary Akhil Gogoi as ‘gathia’ or the short-statured one and invited him to the BTC area to work for the welfare of the farmers.

Mohilary was addressing the rally of the Congress and BPF at the Khanapara Veterinary College ground and imitated surprise at Akhil Gogoi giving out statements from the capital city.
